Thanks

[edit]

Hello Skilgis1900 and welcome to Wikipedia. I wanted to say thanks for adding this entry to the Denver Nugget article [1]. Speaking as someone who is old enough to have seen the Rockets play in both buildings it is great that you added that venue to the article. The reference that you used looks interesting and I may have to add my memories to their message boards. Thanks again. MarnetteD | Talk 23:22, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for Les Hunter (basketball)

[edit]

On 29 March 2020, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Les Hunter (basketball), which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:32, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to call your attention to comments I've made at the talk page of that article. I've been studying the subject, and those "Stats" guys seem to have some of their facts wrong. It turns out that Kishwaukee Park was at 15th and Seminary, and not coincidentally it has the same footprint as Beyer Stadium. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots05:23, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article CarShield Collegiate League has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:N. This isn't a notable baseball league.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Category:Baseball leagues in Vermont requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 1937 Centreville Colts

[edit]

Hi, I ended up on the page for Centreville Red Sox today, which I see you created in November—it looks good. I do see one affiliation that doesn't look right, that of 1937 with the Boston Red Sox. In the current sourcing on the page, this link for 1937 Centreville Colts Roster lists their affiliation as being with the Philadelphia Phillies, which I believe is correct. There is this page at BR bullpen, which says they were a Red Sox affiliate during 1937–1939, but I find that BR bullpen has errors and it's best to check with other sources. The Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball has Centreville first being affiliated with Boston in 1939. And to check with a contemporary source, I found this article from the Reading Times in 1939 that states the team is becoming a Boston affiliate after two seasons with the Phillies ("Philadelphia Nationals", as they referred to them). I believe the 1937 affiliation should be listed as Phillies not Red Sox, so I wanted to check with you before making a change? Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 05:28, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. Yes, some references often conflict with each other, especially with older minor league baseball. Feel free to change as the most reliable source indicates. Keep up the good wiki work!Skilgis1900 (talk) 05:54, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly, I'll update the page later tonight or Monday. I've found The Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball to be an awesome (and reliable) source of info on older minor league teams. The 3rd edition, which came out in 2007, is the most recent. I don't think it's still in print, but copies show up on eBay. Dmoore5556 (talk) 06:12, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Skilgis1900, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! clpo13(talk) 17:45, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, after casually spending six months slowly cleaning up the links to the bullpen, I've run across a hundreds of your awesome articles on obscure and defunct minor league teams. Now that I'm reading it again, my comment above was too terse and I apologize. Without your contributions, I would never have heard of the Lebanon Pretzel Eaters - and a number of other small teams near where I leave that I would never have believed existed. Addition to Chehalis Gophers page...maybe?

[edit]

Hey Skilgis1900!

Long time! Hope all is well. All I can say is you've been rocking it since we've last communicated and I'm a bit jealous on that massive increase to your edit count!

On to business - thinking about adding a bit on the Gophers page but wanted your experienced thoughts first. I'll link to three refs here but be warned, it ain't pretty, especially the 2nd source - [1] [2] [3]

The articles are from 1910 and are about a minstrel show that ballplayers from the team participated in (original research here - probably to advertise the team in its opening season). The act is abhorrent and I want to upchuck my breakfast, no question, but I don't want to ignore it though either. I'll be posting about it at this Chehalis subsection but wondering if it would be prudent to do so on the Gophers page? Don't see a need for it at Millett Field, though.

Whadd'ya think?

Care to settle a bet?

[edit]

Hey Skilgis1900!

First, how in a holy green monkey are you above 60k edits already? Flat-out impressive!

I reach out because I found this photo at a University of Washington digital collection - [2]. Based on photos I've seen of Millett Field, the grandstand and background look very close...I mean very close, even the hill and factory in the background. I was thinking of adding it but my partner of going on so many snoring years thinks two things -

1. It may not be.

2. He thinks the gear/jerseys looks too 1930s, and therefore the pic wouldn't pass straight-up copyright usage to post.

Have a thought? He wins, I buy him a saw blade (why? I dunno, I don't really listen when he talks about tools...or baseball.) or I win and I get the weighted blanket he has feared will suffocate him at night.

My thanks!

Shortiefourten (talk) 18:59, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Shortiefourten (talk

Lol! Good luck on the bet. Here's my two cents, I may be flawed.

Probably, the best approach on publishing any photos to wiki is to obtain them through wikicommons [3]. You can do a photo search by subject or location. They have the copyright status on the page for each photo. Often they have no copyright issues and are ok publish on wikipedia. Photos from other sources that have copyright issues rightfully get wiki folks excited... and they get deleted with a strong lecture.

That is a great photo and a great find, the date range is large, 55 years!. According to this [4] the photo is restricted from being published elsewhere. I don't know the logistics involved to post to wikicommons, but possibly you could contact the Library to inquire about having this particular photo posted to wikicommons, but that might be a longhsot. Keep up the good work!! Skilgis1900 (talk) 23:43, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
