I have begun work to bring the Moray Council election pages up to scratch. If you are interested in doing this too, remember these websites for use:

https://www.electionscentre.co.uk/ (Full Scottish results for local elections stretching far back can be found here)

https://www.andrewteale.me.uk/leap/

https://ballotbox.scot/le22

I am currently working on submitting these pages:

1984 Moray District Council election

Grampian Regional Council elections wiki project

[edit]

I am now also working on the Grampian Regional council election pages

I am working on submitting the first 2 elections and updating the remaining 4.

I am in the process of trying to get a escutcheon for the former Grampian regional council soon. SpeysideWikipedian (talk) 23:28, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on SpeysideWikipedian/1974 Grampian Regional Council election requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Grampian Region District Council elections wiki project

[edit]

I am working on submitting all Grampian region district council elections. I am now in the process of creating new pages for the missing Kincardine and Deeside, and Gordon elections. Once they are created, the process of adding detailed ward results to those pages begins, and the additional process of adding ward summaries, and then finally background information. When that is done, I shall endeavour to finally create the missing Aberdeenshire council election pages. SpeysideWikipedian (talk) 15:14, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2012 Aberdeenshire Council election, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Daily Record. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Remaining Scottish Local Election pages 1974, 1977 etc

[edit]

I am working on creating the remaining 1974, 1977 etc pages now. Once they are all created, the long work on adding ward results begins. Also modernising existing pages SpeysideWikipedian (talk) 10:25, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Just wanted to say great work on creating so many articles on the 1974 Scottish local elections! Number 57 22:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to 1988 Dumbarton District Council election. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. IntentionallyDense (talk) 00:03, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The standard practice from every other reviewer who has reviewed the new election pages is to attach a "needs more sources" tag rather than move the article to draft space. For Scottish council elections before around 1999, there are only really 3 sources one can work with. The first of such sources are the Scottish District Elections 19xx handbooks, which use data collected from deputy returning officers who presided over Scotland's council elections across every ward in the country. These handbooks are written by J. M. Bochel, who was a senior lecturer at the University of Dundee, and D. T. Denver, who was a lecturer at the University of Lancaster. The second of such sources would be using local/national newspaper articles to confirm data presented in the aforementioned handbooks. This is tedious and rather boring, and is I suspect why other reviewers have not moved the articles to draft space and have left to others who may have an interest in local media or similar to find additional sources for the articles (if no-one else has added such sources I shall endeavour to add them myself once every single Scottish council election page has been created). But, as of right now I have no time or patience to be looking through decades old local/national newspapers to find election details which are generally badly presented. The third of such sources is to use the data preserved by some councils on their respective websites. For example this page: Local Election Results - 1974 to Date from Dundee City Council. Not all authorities have such pages on their websites and even if they do it generally is not collated.
For elections after 2003 it is easy to add additional sources to Scottish election articles because amazing resources such as Ballot Box Scotland or the Local Elections Archive Project exist. But, for elections prior to 2003 there is limited collated data online and few sources to work with. I would much prefer to continue creating new Scottish council election pages, which act as shells for myself or other election nerds to improve, rather than have my new articles being converted to drafts on mass, where they will sit and die as I have limited time to research newspaper sources myself or add ward results or background information, drawing again on resignations and by-elections generally only to be found in newspapers, or on ancient blogs.
Just add the "additional sources needed" tag and move on. I will work on these pages more when I find the time, and I would rather like to believe, in main, these articles may be improved by travelling strangers on the wiki. But if the day comes when every single 1974-2022 council election page has been created and no-one has improved them I will improve them.
