Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Deuterium-Tritium fusion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nucleus. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Dickie Pride

Hello, What a terrible shame that rhe truths now removed from the above Subject's hisrory are noe obly to ve read in the editorial notes, to which I should say few refer. I you explore the singer's history with application, rather than just as a passing observer, you'll see that these matters are true, It should be no pleasing thought to anyone whose time is given to the pursuance of truth, such as a dictionary's Editor, that after their day's work is done there is less truth in the world. It's simmilar to taking a rubber across mankind's collective memory; the individual consigning their own time, and the dictonary's entire purpose into a waste paper basket. I do need to learn gow to insert a reference no.; but before then tbere should be an intermediary point, between inclusion and expulsion of truths. Inn this instance i'm truly sorry to report that your time has been used only to deny interested parties the opportunity of furthering their knowledge of a chosen subject; in a dictionary this must surely be seen as the truest representation od time-squandered "Vandalism" there could ever be ? However, having eexpressed myself, I'll leave it there, widh you well, and leave it to others to research, now, rather than to take the now lost opportunity hust to read these 'tippexed-truths' for themselves. 213.205.241.183 (talk) 14:15, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Can you please make the English understandable? I barely get the gist of your message. But remember, Wikipedia does not lead, it follows. Thank you. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:22, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Apologies for the typos. To type with one usable arm, at present, is difficult. All but the third line, first paragraph, I'd say, despite the typos, are decipherable. That line should have read: "... history are now only to be read in the [editorial notes]". Near the end, I "Wished" you well; I still do. I restate that to remove the truth from a dictionary is a squandering of the Editor's time; and, a wilful depredation of other's opportunities to learn from other's researches. I'm happy to leave it there. If other's want to learn more of the truth of the subject, they should read the now-deleted edits. Or, they could just click on the irrelevant, and now-reinstated link of 'Croydon', and read, instead, why all should be well advised never to visit the dump, instead of about the subject himself; whose poor fortune kept him at No.74, Parchmore Road, rather than allowing him to leave it at the first opportunity his elusive success should have provided. Regards. 79.73.43.190 (talk) 21:08, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

About Vera Fischer

Hello Sungodtemple. You reverted my edition on Vera Fischer. Her birth name is not Vera Lúcia Berndt Fischer. Her birth name is only Vera Fischer. Her name in the references links does not have "Lúcia Berndt". The Portuguese wikipedia page was already fixed and I'm trying to fix in other languages too.--Lflrocha (talk) 16:56, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Her IMDb says that her birth name is Vera Lúcia Berndt Fischer. Most of the other links are dead links, so there is not much else to go off of. Sungodtemple (talk) 18:54, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Arvid Harnack

Hi @Sungodtemple: How goes it? Thanks for that edit. Good work, that was quick. Also while I'm here. IMDB isn't a trusted source as it's a WP:SPS. You can take it with a grain of salt. If you need any help on anything, please give me a shout. scope_creepTalk 16:06, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

HELLO best intentions here

I wonder what was contentious. Respect and cheer, mic Electricmic (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:09, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

The specific problem was a random YouTube video. Youtube is a disputed external link (see WP:External links/Perennial websites#YouTube). If it is appropriate, add it back (with an explanation in the edit summary). Thanks. Sungodtemple (talk) 20:14, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

SS Prague

Hello Sungodtemple. Hope I'm writing this in the right place - I've never tried to respond to an edit! Thanks for your message about my edit of the SS Prague page in which I added the information that the ship brought the first group of about 200 refugee ‘Kindertransport’ children to the UK, on the overnight ferry from Hook of Holland to Harwich, landing on December 2 1938 (not 1939 as in my edit). There are many references to the date but the only evidence I have found that it was the SS Prague is a film taken by a cameraman for Time magazine, hence my YouTube reference. As YouTube is not accepted as reliable, would this source for the film be accepted: https://zb-media.com/en/the-kinder-december-2-1938/? Warwickshire Warrener (talk) 14:17, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

@Warwickshire Warrener: Most likely. In the future, I would recommend using the article's talk page. Thanks. Sungodtemple a tcg fan!!1!11!! (talk) 16:04, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

You reverted my grammar fix on the Jade page?!

Hi my name is Jeremy.

I'm replying to your message here.

I'm sure that your intentions were honourable, but contrary to the thrust of your message, the change that I made was both intentional and constructive! The previous (and now following your reversion; current) "From to 1964 to 1981" on the Jade page (in the Southeast Asia section) does not make sense and is not correct grammar.

Personally I probably would have preferred "Between 1964 and 1981", but I figured that the smallest possible change set was preferable and the most constructive approach. So I merely removed the first "to", to produce a sentence that makes sense and is correct English grammar.

I was just trying to do my little bit to improve Wikipedia. If you still disagree, oh well whatever... I don't care enough to fight you over something so insignificant, so you do whatever you want...

--118.209.95.9 (talk) 03:45, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Ah I see. I've self-reverted. Sungodtemple a tcg fan!!1!11!! (talk) 13:46, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Source unreliable because it's conservative?

You used this edit summary in tagging a source in the Rebekah Jones article: "adding unreliable source tag, as human events is generally conservative". While The source indeed doesn't measure up in terms of reliability, I am unaware of any stipulation WP policy or guidance that if a source is "conservative" it is therefore unreliable. Can you please explain? Thanks. Anastrophe (talk) 05:06, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

I'm thinking, since Rebekah Jones was involved in Florida's COVID statistics, Human Events could be unreliable (it's conservative, conservative Florida governor wants to reopen and possibly wants to hide the number of COVID cases they had). It is a bit of a stretch though, I must say. Sungodtemple (talk) 11:52, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Question from Son of ferro (05:38, 16 May 2021)

Hello, on reading the entry about Toyota Industries Corporation, I found that there was no direct links to one of its subsidiaries (that I have worked for for many years). I then searched for entries regarding this subsidiary and found information on the Swedish language Wikipedia. It strikes me that there is potential for improving the linking of these entries. So my questions are: 1)How to establish if an entry found in one language is referenced or even exists in a different language Wiki? 2) If the entry does not directly exist in another language, should it first be created? OR Can entries written in one language be linked to entries written in another language? This feels like a good place to start my editing journey. In the meantime, reading and digesting all the "How tos" I can get my hands on. --Son of ferro (talk) 05:38, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Son of ferro, you can translate articles into another language from other Wikipedias, although there are a few pitfalls you may run into. First, the machine translation will be absolutely terrible, and you need a good understanding of both languages to make a good translation. Second, you must give proper attribution to the Wikipedia you translated it from. Third, other Wikipedias have different criteria for inclusion, and make sure that the article follows the English Wikipedia's criteria.
Also, I noticed you say you have worked for a subsidiary of Toyota for a while. This is called a conflict of interest, or COI. It may be hard to keep a neutral point of view when being a COI editor, so be careful! Sungodtemple (talk) 14:56, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll consider the points you made and have a little think about how I will approach this. Son of ferro (talk) 09:29, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Son of ferro, you may not want to give a barnstar for a talk page reply (see User:Gwillhickers/Trivializing and misuse of awards). You may want to use a thank instead. Although, thank you for showing WikiLove. Sungodtemple (talk) 11:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Question from Joegates2015 (15:27, 17 May 2021)

Hi there, how do I update an article please? Is it the same process as adding text and a citation?

Thanks! --Joegates2015 (talk) 15:27, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Joegates2015, 'updating' can mean either routine things like subscriber count on YouTubers, or actually updating articles with current information. The second is the same process as adding text and some citations. Usually you can find this kind of information in the news, although you must be careful about WP:NOTNEWS. Sungodtemple (talk) 16:07, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Neutrality

Is it a matter of Neutrality or truth? I live on this island, I have the accurate information as it happens. Why is it that my info is being removed and false information is being placed? Whyyyyy??? Is this website for truth or false information???

He was never trying to get to Cuba at anytime from Dominica, it is a impossible mission by little boat. This is beyond rediculous. United Democracy (talk) 12:18, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

United Democracy, this is a website for verifiability. We don't necessarily say the 'truth', we repeat what has already been said by reliable sources. Putting in the truth (without citations) counts as 'original research', or things that you probably know to be true but nobody can confirm that they are true. You are probably right, but unfortunately Wikipedia will only mimic what has already been reported. see WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. If you find references it will be accepted into Wikipedia.
Also, I had concerns with your point of view. It would have been much better if you, instead of saying 'Kidnapped for the purpose of depriving him of rights guaranteed to him...' you could just say 'Kidnapped...', or 'Taken...'. Wikipedia is a hard-to-navigate place, and there are about 50 official policies in total. I've been in your position before. Please take the time to learn about Wikipedia's policies. Hi I need help how do I edit perfectly plz help me --Lol (talk) 17:41, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Simangele Mgaga, no one can edit perfectly, but here are a few pages to check out Help:Introduction to the Manual of Style/1, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOT. There are tens of policies and guidelines, along with essays and discussion forums, so make sure to check each and every single one out. I would recommend going to the village pump and reading the discussion there, to get a better sense of what the 'important' policies are. Sungodtemple (talk) 18:17, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello! I'm an Australian student and just wanted to help out. OP8184, sorry for the late reply, but one way to help out (and how I started helping out!) is copy editing. Basically, it's fixing grammar, tone, and wording. On your homepage (accessed by clicking your username) you can find pages that need copy editing. Happy editing! Sungodtemple (talk) 11:44, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Question from Hemanga Deka (20:10, 25 June 2021)

May I know how to create a company website? --Hemanga Deka (talk) 20:10, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The above user wrote a promotional userpage concerning his own company, which has since been speedy deleted as WP:U5. I have left notices about WP:PROMO, WP:COMPANY and WP:COI. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 22:27, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
Kemanga Deka, Wikipedia is not a place to create a website. You will have to register the domain via a registrar, find a way to host the website, and actually write the markup language. Wikipedia, instead, is meant to give readers information that is actually useful and act like a conventional encyclopedia, but online.
If you are trying to create an encyclopedic, neutral article, I would recommend Help:Your first article as a place to start. And it will be near impossible to write a neutral article if you have a conflict of interest with the company in question. Above all, make sure the company is actually notable. Question from Cipher821 (05:49, 4 August 2021)

Hello, I'm new to Wikipedia editing, and would like to learn more. I would especially like to work with a team, where users can learn more from each other.

In the dashboard section, it mentioned courses with weekly goals, and a teacher. How do I join a course, or is it only available to some people? --Cipher821 (talk) 05:49, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello Cipher821 and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'working with a team' but you may be referring to WP:WikiProjects, which is a group of people all interested in a certain topic. I don't know what you mean by 'courses with weekly goals' or 'teacher' though. Can you please clarify? Sungodtemple (talk) 14:56, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. The team project I mentioned probably is the WikiProjects, thanks for the link.
As for the "courses", I'm referring to is from dashboard.wikiedu.org. It says 'Looks like you haven't joined a course yet', and the option to 'Find your course'. Clicking the link sends me to a page of 'Active Campaigns', with the option to 'Join course'. The course options seems amazing; it has instructors, weekly milestones, assignments, peer review, and grading. I would very much like to join one.
However, it requires a passcode from the instructor to join.
Are these courses available for online application, or is it only available for students from its physical school? If available online, where can I apply? Cipher821 (talk) 01:35, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
Cipher821 this is the Wikipedia Education program. It's meant for people in university courses and such to learn to edit Wikipedia as part of their coursework. I'm not too familiar with it though. You can ask at the teahouse or helpdesk (where more people can see it) and hopefully get a better response. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:13, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your help! I will check there. Cipher821 (talk) 14:49, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello . Question about my Marshall JVM205C That I have from England and want to use it in the USA. It is made to run on 220V and in the USA we have 110V So How and what can I do to make it work here in the USA on 110V ??? Buy a UP/Down Transformer ? I was told it can make the amp work by stepping up the USA Power from 110V to 220V and all will be good. Is That TRUE ???? --TBARSHOWDOG (talk) 23:00, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

TBARSHOWDOG, the mentorship feature is meant for questions on editing Wikipedia. Sungodtemple (talk) 02:53, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
@TBARSHOWDOG: How you solve this depends on how your amp is designed. Check with a local dealer/service person to see if it's built with the ability to switch power settings internally (some amps do, some amps don't). If it can't be changed, then a step-up transformer would be the solution. The drawback of this is that these are generally huge and heavy because they have to handle the high wattage (similar to the output transformers in your amp). If you're only using it at home, that might be just fine though. Good luck! Cheers, Nettrom (talk) 09:49, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi - you are listed as my "mentor" and I wasn't sure where to go with this. I really thank you for making yourself available for questions, and it makes a big difference for me to have an avenue of communication. That said, never any offense taken if you can't get around to responding =)

I understand why no original work is allowed and why the rules require citations - so without changing the current practice at all, I think we need to find a way (maybe using a second tab), to give a home to new ideas, information, and original research. I understand this at first may sound so dumb it's frustrating - but the problem as I see it is that right now there are many pages where conjecture and opinions and clear bias are rampant - but because these opinions were published in an acceptable source they are allowed. I get the chaos this prevents, but what it creates is a dependence on the integrity and inclusiveness of, for example, journals - which we know are very sensitive to the majority view, use credentials as a filtering process instead of quality of work, are very unlikely to print anything that risks their base of readers, and barring the discoveries that support their way of thinking, are basically entirely closed off to new ideas. My point is that Wikipedia, which I love, needs to enable the growth of ideas as well as ensuring the integrity of the currently accepted body of knowledge.

If Wikip[edia is really the Free encyclopedia, then Wikipedia can't allow opinions to be cited because someone published them 30 years ago, and not allow a space for alternate theories (that may never see publication if for no other reason than someone more 'respected' had already published theirs).

I love Wikipedia, I use it daily, I donate, but as you have become people's single source of information, if you don't make space for new insights and ideas, you end up a mouthpiece of the establishment, instead of a place for light - or even better, a place for both. Thank you --Drfjenkins (talk) 16:39, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Our job is not to "ensure" the integrity of the accepted body of knowledge; it is to write material based on it. New insights and ideas need to be written up and published first, lest we become another hotbed of COVID misinformation or Bosnian pyramid stuff. Drmies (talk) 16:42, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
    • Thank you for illustrating my point. Assuming you have not spent time studying either topic objectively in any depth (the news doesn't count, not does 'The Lancet'), you talk as though you have a reason to believe beyond any doubt that you know something. Yet all you know is that someone you don't know told you to think a certain way, and now you are making statements about things being misinformation when you yourself most likely have no information. And because you are operating at full certainty but fueling it with no real knowledge, and because you don't see a problem with believing whatever you are told is the acceptable belief, you also see no problem being most people's go-to source for information while blocking any information that hasn't made it through a publication process that is about as open minded and welcoming as you are.

I know what Wikipedia is, which is why I don't suggest changing it. But I also know what Wikipedia is, so I suggest adding a second tab so that readers who care, can see other viewpoints that aren't filtered out by the bias, influence, and sophism, that is unfortunately the loudest voice in academia today. YOU may want to decide for everyone what is misinformation and what is the lamp of knowledge, but I think the light is never afraid of the dark - something you are reinforcing cannot be said the other way.

Only people who want to control how you act are afraid of you hearing something 'crazy'. Obviously 'crazy' misinformation should by and large show itself for what it is. If it doesn't, then bud, the problem ain't gonna be helped or harmed by anything done here. Drfjenkins (talk) 17:18, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

      • I'm not your bud. Drmies (talk) 00:05, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
      • Drfjenkins, watch out for the gaslighting here. While I agree completely in that journals and published sources want to keep their readers, Wikipedia, as User:Drmies said, is a place to reiterate published sources, not publish original research.
      • And as for the fact that much opinion and misinformation exists in articles, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Just because something is on Wikipedia is not an excuse to continue with that 'something'. In fact, you can help us with this - remove biased opinions from articles you read.
      • Lastly, I must concede that Wikipedia is slightly liberal-leaning (possibly because of its editors). So that may be one reason for the prevalent original thought on Wikipedia. Sungodtemple (talk) 00:56, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
If this a liberal run site, I will be out of here so fast it will make your head spin. Liberals try to control people, places, and things. They try to stuff their beliefs down your throats, if you do not go along with it, you are called all kinds of colorful names. I will remain free to make my own choices, decisions, as I see fit. Question from FreedmansBureau (11:48, 16 September 2021)

Hello, please check my work. I submitted my first Wikipedia edit. I added a section to article "William Henry Harrison Beadle". The new section is titled "Officer of the Freedmen's Bureau" The content is based on book "Wilmington's Lie" by NYT writer and Pullitzer Prize winning author, David Zucchino. --FreedmansBureau (talk) 11:48, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

FreemansBureau, I reverted your edit. Now the idea was great, but unfortunately there are a ton of Wikipedia policies that define what to put on Wikipedia pages. Basically, it was not cited (use Template:Cite book for this), it gives undue weight to his time at the Freedman's Bureau, and the location of the section should be before the lead paragraph (MOS:STRUCTURE).
IMHO, you might want to start with easier edits like copy-edits to get a better sense for how Wikipedia works before making big changes to an article or creating an article. Sungodtemple (talk) 12:07, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Question from Stayingintheshadows (02:23, 18 September 2021)

Good evening, I am very new here, trying to navigate this site so I will be able to publish articles that I feel are important. I want to let my feelings be known about what is happening to my country at the hands of these kooks that are in there now. I gave three years of my life in the Army defending the USA, and I will not stand by and let these son of a bitches tear it to pieces. Due to all my anger, I expect to be heavily edited. --Stayingintheshadows (talk) 02:23, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Stayingintheshadows, note that Wikipedia is not meant for your own personal opinion, it is meant to publish articles based on reliable sources. You might not want to edit Wikipedia to spread your opinion, maybe use a blog or YouTube. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:51, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Metal Foam CMF removal

Hi Sungodtemple (Bloons tower defense 5 reference?),

You recently removed the section about Composite Metal Foam from the metal foams page, stating that it is "not exactly notable". Personally, I disagree with this sentiment. CMF is the highest performing type of metal foam across nearly all performance parameters. I feel that this alone makes it notable, at least more notable than the other types of metal foam that were left on the page. Plus, the section about CMF had more listed studies and performance information than any other metal foam on that page. For these reasons, I restored the section. Let me know what you think about this.

Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jesse.Heidrich (talkcontribs) 20:53, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Jesse.Heidrich: Notability is not determined by how good something is, but rather how much it is talked about. I would say that one reliable source would justify a small section on CMF; however, many of the references were papers (which were not independent) or from somewhat sketchy sources (urweb, ZME science) that will definitely need proof of verifiability. That's why I removed the section. Sungodtemple (talk) 01:10, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

Beingsingle42, the article has issues with reliable sources (click the link to find out more). Basically, Wikipedia can't take that many articles, so it sets guidelines on what the minimum amount of sourcing an article requires to be published. Read up about reliable sources and notability, and hopefully your article will be published! Sungodtemple (talk) 01:51, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Question from Jolly1253 (13:34, 2 November 2021)

Hi Sungodtemple! Thank you for being my mentor as I am new here. I want to ask how do I know if an image has copyrights to it or not? And what are some reliable sources that I can get information from? Thank you and hope that you are doing well. --Jolly1253 (talk) 13:34, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Most images you find on any website are copyrighted. It's quite a bit to swallow but here you go: WP:IMAGEPOL. Some reliable sources include news like the NY Times, or even local news, scholarly articles, etc. If you can give a specific example you're working on I can show you some examples of reliable sources. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:10, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply! So sorry about the reply to this one month old thread, but I have something to ask you about. So recently I wanted to help to improve this article: 1989–90 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. season on its references due to the lack of inline citations, but the references placed are articles in Wikipedia instead of other websites. So should I delete the references and replace with sourced resources or create a new section('See also') to place them all under it? Could the external link be placed as a reference? And could you provide some examples of reliable sources to find for this article? Thank you in advance! Jolly1253 (talk) 10:59, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
No problem! You can ask me a question whenever you need help. Wikipedia references are not reliable sources (WP:Wikipedia is not a reliable source), so you should delete the references to Wikipedia and replace them with reliable ones. A see also may or may not apply, it is basically a list of related things that could pique the reader's interest. So a see also for the article you're working on might be Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. External links, if they are reliable sources, can be used. And lastly, if you go onto the Wikipedia pages 1989–90 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. season currently cites, you will find some citable sources. Sungodtemple (talk) 21:20, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
I have found a source for the article itself that is used throughout the other seasons for the club in the articles, but it is a book source that does not have a online copy for it and therefore I cannot check on specific parts to cite. Is it recommended that I place it as a reference but without inline citations? Or should I cite it in the first paragraph? Jolly1253 (talk) 04:04, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Jolly1253, you could ask the person who added the reference or try to find it at a library. I would hold off on citing it as it's better to leave something uncited, and have people know it's uncited, than giving people a false sense of security with a citation. Could you tell me where you found the book? Sungodtemple (talk) 18:14, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

The book that I found is (Matthews, Tony (2008). Wolverhampton Wanderers: The Complete Record. Derby: Breedon Books. ISBN 978-1-85983-632-3.) and it have been cited in multiple articles related to the club. I found it in the article List of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. seasons and other articles about the other seasons of the club. I have also found another source that I think it can be placed in it, but I'm not very sure where can I put it. Jolly1253 (talk) 14:06, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

I would just say, ask the person who made the edit. As for the other source add it wherever it says the thing being cited (when the reader reads it they should be able to click on the reference and see the same info reflected in the source). Sungodtemple (talk) 00:49, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Alright, I have added the second source into the article, and I will try to ask the person for the book source(or maybe I will ask at the Wikipedia: Wikiproject Resource Exchange - Resource Request section for it). Anyways, thank you so much for the help(and so sorry if I have disturbed you with too many questions for these few days)! Jolly1253 (talk) 11:48, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Dear Sungodtemple,

I recently made large revisions to the Canton Symphony Orchestra page, however, when I went to publish it, a copyright message appeared and everything I worked on was automatically deleted. I was hoping that you could retrieve what I wrote so I can fix the issue and try to post it again. I spent hours researching and writing but I unfortunately did not save a backup. I was hoping that you could find what I wrote and message it to me. Thank you for your help.

Best, Hallana --Hallana Rose (talk) 20:14, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Hallana Rose, using copyrighted material from another website is prohibited on Wikipedia. See WP:C. You may have done this accidentally; maybe you wrote the content on a separate website and then posted it on Wikipedia. Please take this into consideration.
I cannot recover the edit that you have made as only administrators can see deleted edits. Just as a note, if you are going to spend hours researching and editing, please read WP:Policies and guidelines or try something easier first. You may be very disappointed if you find out that the edit you spent hours researching was deleted because it included promotional content or didn't cite any sources. I'd like to know if I can choose specific topics that I am an expert to edit articles? And also how can I get more access to edit major articles?

LauraFair, yes, you can choose which specific categories of articles you want to get recommended to you in your homepage. As for the second question, you can get autoconfirmed or extended confirmed by getting 10 edits after 4 days of registration or 500 edits after 30 days of registration, respectively. Thanks! A few biographies are marked as self-promotion. Can I add a section to talk about the controversies around that figure?

Thanks! --LauraFair (talk) 03:05, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

LauraFair, generally, when something is marked as having self-promotion, it generally means the content already in the article describes the subject as overly good, such as 'award-winning', 'pioneer', or 'world-class'. Generally these fluff words should be removed, rather than a controversy section be added. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:15, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Question from TrishWhitsell (01:00, 26 February 2022)

Hello. I was told to go to Wikipedia and create a page on myself. I am not very comfortable with this, but realize for an artist it might be very important. --TrishWhitsell (talk) 01:00, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

TrishWhitsell, there are a lot of things that go into new articles on Wikipedia, and I'd recommend you'd start with something easier and work your way up. Also note, since you are writing a page about yourself, you have a WP:COI. This makes it much more difficult to use a neutral tone in the article and can lead to promotional-ish content. Check out WP:YFA to create a new article.
Once again, creating a new article is very difficult, even for experienced editors. I seriously advise you start with easier edits. Some examples of easier edits include edits marked as 'easy' difficulty level on your homepage. Sungodtemple (talk) 03:09, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Question from Mybusinesschacha on Help talk:Getting started (20:45, 22 March 2022)

How to add url or any link --Mybusinesschacha (talk) 20:45, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Mybusinesschacha, enclose the article title in brackets ([[Princeton University]], Princeton University) to link to an article.
If the displayed text should be different than the article title, use a vertical bar ([[Princeton University|the college in Princeton]], the college in Princeton).
For external links use a single bracket containing a link followed by a space, followed by the display title ([https://princeton.edu Official Website], Official Website).
Hope this helps! Sungodtemple (talk) 23:14, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from AskTT on Draft:Stephanie Spruill (18:48, 25 March 2022)

Hello, Wondering if I'm on the right track. I'm an assistant to this artist and am creating a page for her. Am I correct in just filling information in between the brackets?

It is also unclear where and how to upload her picture --AskTT (talk) 18:48, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

AskTT, I cannot see what you are doing in the editor, so I don't know what you are referring to. Could you be more specific, such as a template or page that you are using? Sungodtemple (talk) 02:34, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sarah M Cohen (07:42, 27 March 2022)

Hello, nice to virtually meet you. I have a question regarding editing of a personal page that contains potentially inflammatory / libelous content. Attempts have been made to delete the offending paragraph but it has reappeared. Can you help to resolve the issue? Thanks very much, Sarah --Sarah M Cohen (talk) 07:42, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Sarah M Cohen, are you talking about Sarah Cohen (journalist)? If there is libelous content, simply remove it. However, note that you have a conflict of interest and may not make accurate judgements. IMO the section Cohen on data-driven reporting is definitely too in-depth but is not that libelous. Sungodtemple (talk) 21:15, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your speedy reply. No, not talking about a page with a name close to mine at all. You make an important point about bias. Sarah M Cohen (talk) 05:28, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Can you let me know which article this is? Then I can assist you if necessary. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:04, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Amb laura on Model United Nations (16:24, 28 May 2022)

Amb laura, the 'mentor' feature is for asking about how to contribute to Wikipedia, not for general purpose questions. Try asking at the reference desk. Sungodtemple (talk) 20:34, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Femi Vivi Girl (13:29, 1 June 2022)

Hi do you have an email for more personal related questions. Thanks --Femi Vivi Girl (talk) 13:29, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Femi Vivi Girl, I have turned off contacting by email at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-personal. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:21, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi I'm having difficulty editing a page. I actually edited it a couple of times but it's not published. I was wondering if I could send the page link and details so you could assist. Also some of the references are in picture document do there's no way to send that here. Femi Vivi Girl (talk) 15:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Femi Vivi Girl, I saw your edit on List of best-selling fiction authors. You need reliable sources, so a photo of an email by a person who could be lying would not work. I also see the Vanguard News source says it has sold just 12 million copies, and it is mentioned that a minimum of 100 million copies is required. Sungodtemple (talk) 19:45, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Ok, looks like I was wrong about what the article said. But I still notice there is no author credit and the English is not very good, so I wouldn't trust the source, especially if the subject doesn't even have an article. Sungodtemple (talk) 19:52, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Also that article reference has the same identical wording as many other sites advertising this book, with no evidence to back it up. And the book doesn't even appear to be listed on Amazon, so not sure where this 4.5 star comes from. It's pretty clear from a cursory search that this is someone self advertising their work to every corner they can find based on the fact that every single reference to this book has the exact same wording, but no reviews or other mentions. Question from Jade the Gemstone (15:36, 1 June 2022)

I want to create a Wikipedia, how do I begin? --Jade the Gemstone (talk) 15:36, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Jade the Gemstone, to create a new language Wikipedia, make sure you are fluent in that language and head to meta:Language proposal policy.
If you are looking to create an article on the English Wikipedia, create a draft and make sure to follow WP:YFA. Sungodtemple (talk) 19:49, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Irishbookcorner (13:23, 19 June 2022)

how can I publish it? --Irishbookcorner (talk) 13:23, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Irishbookcorner, Wikipedia does not publish books, we 'publish' articles about topics. If your book becomes notable, we might end up creating a page about one of your books, but otherwise it does not belong on Wikipedia. Sungodtemple (talk) 18:59, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Bookpile (20:06, 19 June 2022)

Hello. I want to insert two paragraphs I've written in my sandbox with four citations in place of one paragraph in an existing Wikipedia article. How to do this? --Bookpile (talk) 20:06, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Bookpile, click the 'edit' or 'edit source' button on the top of the page you want to edit. Then, you can replace the paragraph in question. Sungodtemple (talk) 23:22, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from The Ashcrafter (03:09, 23 June 2022)

Hey, sorry to bother you.

A post was sent to my talk page telling me that an edit I made to an article was removed because it "seemed to be a test". In the edit in question, I added a section that I thought people who looked up the page might be looking for and did a decent amount of research to find sources for it. It certainly wasn't meant to be a test. Is there some way I can stop things like that from happening in the future? I did spend a lot of time on it and would prefer if my work was worth it.

Thank you for reading my concerns! The Ashcrafter (talk) 03:09, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

The Ashcrafter, User:Drmies reverted your edit because it contained external links to other websites, which seemed to be advertising or promotion for those events. In addition, the festivals listed must be at least somewhat notable to be included. A self-published website does not demonstrate notability.
Lastly, to make sections enclose the section title with equal signs like ==this==. Subsections can be made using two equals signs like ===so=== and subsubsections can be made like ====this====. Here is what they would render like:

this

this

this

Hope that helps. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:43, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Blanked page

Blaqkidd.kingofsoccer, this was vandalism by an anonymous IP user. I have reverted their change. In the future, you can check page history to see what other users have done to edit an article. Sungodtemple (talk) 21:47, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

User group

Hello. What is a "user group" and what does it do regarding editing on Wikipedia? Blaqkidd.kingofsoccer (talk) 07:00, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Blaqkidd.kingofsoccer, a user group is a set of users with 'rights', such as autoconfirmed, extended confirmed, Template editor, and administrators. There are numerous user rights, although we try to minimize them to avoid hat collecting. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:11, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Minenlhe (13:54, 28 June 2022)

Hello mentor, I have a question to ask. How can we make our own articles public so many people can read about it. I request you to answer as soon as possible please mentor.🙂 --Minenlhe (talk) 13:54, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Minenlhe, what do you mean by 'our own articles'? There are a lot of standards relating to new articles and I advise you to start by editing existing ones. Sungodtemple (talk) 13:58, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

I meant articles that I wrote myself Minenlhe (talk) 14:04, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Minenlhe, anything published on Wikipedia (in userspace, draftspace, mainspace) is 'public', if you know where to look. I advise you check to make sure it doesn't violate any copyrights first. For example, if you wrote an article about a company, but it has a paragraph from the company website, either the company has to release it under a CC-compatible license or you have to remove it.
Next, create a draft, or, if you are 100% sure that it is notable, has no bias, follow the manual of style, and is sourced properly, you can create a new article directly in main space. There are countless guides as to how you should create your article, for example see WP:YFA.
Again, I would recommend to not start by creating a new article, it will likely be speedily deleted or otherwise removed since there are many guidelines to keep track of. Sungodtemple (talk) 23:02, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from The Real Sleepy82 (00:40, 5 July 2022)

Hello! I was wondering, if you know personally about a topic but you don't know if the information is publicly on a website, do you have to add a [citation needed] to some text that you wrote on a page about that? I'm still new so thank you for the help. --The Real Sleepy82 (talk) 00:40, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

The Real Sleepy82, if it is non-trivial and doesn't have any proper sources available (books and newspapers are fine), then you shouldn't put it in. It is far too easy to lie on this route, and no one will know (other than you) whether the information is true. verifiability is a foundational idea of Wikipedia. Question from Emerald6o4 (13:25, 12 August 2022)

How would i go about making a wiki page for my company? --Emerald6o4 (talk) 13:25, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from Emerald6o4 (13:53, 12 August 2022)

My page was recently deleted for actions of which it didn't commit, Unambiguous advertising or promotion

It was a page about a company me and my friend are creating. I spent time on that page and had no further warning about this. Is there any way i can have that page back but with edits done to it? (So it wont get deleted) --Emerald6o4 (talk) 13:53, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Emerald6o4, probably not. Note that you cannot advertise your business on Wikipedia. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:36, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
We are not advertising is the thing, we are here to educate people about CREE. Emerald6o4 (talk) 15:33, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Emerald6o4, then there is nothing to say about the company. Not even having results on the first page, as I mentioned below, probably means that Cree Engineering has not done anything remarkable, at least not yet. Sungodtemple (talk) 23:31, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
I have just looked into Cree Engineering, and there are no results for that company on the first page. Don't waste your time working on an article that won't get accepted. Sungodtemple (talk) 14:40, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
It is a small company just starting, you would know that if youd look at the wiki, but its deleted. Emerald6o4 (talk) 15:34, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from Hankus Delirious (20:17, 19 August 2022)

Trying to edit my own page - Henry Gross - I made edits and they were Immediately taken down by a Wiki editor - I did not have an account at the time I made the edits. However, I've made edits in the past with no issues. Can the changes I made be posted? I wrote back to him but have not heard back. He was concerned with the source of my information. I am the most reliable source for my own information. Thanks, Henry Gross --Hankus Delirious (talk) 20:17, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Hankus Delirious, be careful with sharing your name on Wikipedia. Anyone can link your name with your account and, if you have edited on the same page in the past, your IP address, which can reveal your real-life location. To take those edits down contact WP:OVERSIGHT.
On the topic of the edit content, your edits seem overly promotional. In addition, any person is not a reliable source. We need something more than your personal take, something like an article from a well-known newspaper or a peer-reviewed scholarly article. Not what someone says. For this reason, I have reverted those edits. Sungodtemple (talk) 22:54, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
