Unblock request

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Supermann (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have been blocked for 7 months now and have been reflecting ever since. The reasons are obvious in a section above here that is easily accessible, so I would stop short of repeating them. I have attended the monthly Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/April 2022, Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/May 2022 and Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/June 2022 and have come on camera to tell my fellow Wikipedians in NYC that I am sorry for my behavior and won't do it again. Happy to have very limited editing rights back just to thank people for creating pages that I have once attempted to create but failed to save, incl. but not limited to The Great War of Archimedes. @Bluerasberry: at the meetup is very kind and has offered to be a reference. Many thanks for your time and consideration. Supermann (talk) 01:12, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I think that there may be a pathway to being unblocked here, and an apology is appreciated and helpful, but I don't see enough information here about what will be different going forward, in order to remove the block. I must decline your request, you may make another for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 09:58, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • I met Supermann through Wikimedia NYC online meetups. He is a nice person who talks about wanting to edit Wikipedia articles and follow the rules. This person went in front of the wiki group in our video meeting, apologized for conflict, and said they would try to avoid it in the future. They have been blocked from the website for 7 months at this point while joining group meetups for a few months, which I think shows that they care about contributing to wiki and being friendly with others. I support the unblock request. We give additional chances in the wiki community and I can commit to being available to speak for this person if there is any issue in the future. I am just asking all of this in support - I respect the review process that admins have for blocks and think that it should always happen, but I wanted to voice my support along with the request. Thanks for consideration. Bluerasberry (talk) 01:55, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Third unblock request

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Supermann (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

As continued from above, what is going to be different is I will stay away from the pages I had created as much as possible to show that I have moved on from that chapter of my life. In fact, I will refrain from ever editing again other than sending thank you notes publicly. To the extent I have time and become curious again and want to contribute a bit more, I will not try to be bold and revert. Instead, I will initiate discussion first on the talk page. If I don't sense consensus, then I will just walk away and cool my head following the advice from my fellow New Yorkers met during the aforementioned online meetup where camera is turned on. I don't think my name can be cleared, as long as I keep this username. Please let me live with shame so that I can be held accountable. I have not evaded the block at all over these 7 months+. Many thanks for your time and consideration. Supermann (talk) 5:29 pm, 7 July 2022, Thursday (1 month, 6 days ago) (UTC−4)

Accept reason:

  • Continued support I continue to support Supermann's unblock on the basis of their sincere apologies by video to the community organization Wikimedia New York City. Neither Wikimedia NYC nor any other wiki community organization routinely address unblock requests, nor is there any designated or recommended place for wiki organizations in this process, but nevertheless such organizations bring people together and make a public place for anyone to have any conversation they like.
I am convinced from meeting Supermann that they know they got into an online conflict at the start of their Wikipedia experience. I certainly did myself; many others do too. Now this user wants to avoid conflict. It can be difficult to know what to say or do or promise. While I think "refrain from ever editing again" is too strict it certainly could be a short term personal commitment for avoiding conflicts. Also "sending thank you notes publicly" is a useful activity which is good for sharing feedback, making friends, and encouraging Wikipedia's collaborative peer to peer editing process.
I am again commenting in favor of an unblock for this user with any conditions attached. What they proposed works, and I believe the sincerity of their stated regret. Bluerasberry (talk) 15:58, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. I will behave myself going forward. Supermann (talk) 04:13, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
