John Malkovich as "winemaker"

[edit]

Malkovich owns a winery, but is not a winemaker. Now, I do understand that in some parts of the world, "vintner" and "winemaker" are synonymous, but Category:Winemakers is dedicated to winemakers – the professionals actually making the wine. Malkovich is a vintner in the sense that he owns LQLC, but he is not a winemaker. Here he is talking about his winemaker, Jean Natoli: https://www.winespectator.com/articles/john-malkovich-surprising-cast-of-wines-in-provence. Chalandray (talk) 22:36, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Jet Li

[edit]

Hello, Thedarkknightli. Thank you for the information. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am a Japanese and a big fan of Jet Li, and I have several books on his biography published in Japan. In one of them, his birth name is clearly stated as "Li Yangzhong" (李 陽中) and it is explained that he was given the stage name "Li Lianjie" (李 連杰) when he debuted in "Shaolin Temple" (1982). It is explained that "Li Lianjie" (李 連杰) is stage name in China, and also explained that the stage name "Jet Li" was thought up as a global stage name to make it easy to remember in the Philippines and other places around the time of "Martial Arts of Shaolin" (1986). The English source says "Born Li Lian Jie on April 26, 1963," but where did you get the information that Li Yangzhong was his courtesy name?

By the way, regarding his place of birth, all the books I own state clearly that Li was born in "Shenyang". Some websites say "Beijing", but also some write "Shenyang" in Japan. ([1])

Jet Li has been to Japan many times since his first visit in 1982 (even before he made his way to the US), so I think there is probably more information about Jet Li in Japan than in the US and Europe. However, I have not checked the Chinese sources myself, which may be more accurate, and I am not very good at English, so it is difficult to improve the English version of the article in time. I am currently writing an article about my most favorite movie, "Target Blue."(The Bodyguard from Beijing)

So I would like to focus on writing the Japanese version of his article ジェット・リー and his movie articles more accurately based on his biography published in Japan. I would be grateful if you could let me know if there are any reliable Chinese sources on "Li Yangzhong" (李 陽中). Thank you. みしまるもも (talk) 01:29, 24 June 2024 (UTC) add --みしまるもも (talk) 01:49, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @みしまるもも, sorry for the late reply. Tbh, I wasn't (and still isn't) that familiar with Li, and the reason for that reversal was partially because you had changed the year when he obtained US citizenship—which had been (and still is) well-sourced in the body—with no valid explanation. As for "Li Yangzhong", I've just found out it was the producer pseudonym (per this) Li adopted at Jin Yong's suggestion (per this—which, unfortunately, doesn't contain the full text, and the only full access I've already found isn't free) and used while owning Eastern Production in Hong Kong (per this) but I still haven't found any reliable sources which support the statement that it's Li's courtesy name (added by someone else).
Regards, Thedarkknightli (talk) 19:28, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, Thedarkknightli. Thank you very much for your reply.
  • Most Japanese sources say that Jet Li acquired US citizenship in 2000, and Record China reports it(in 2011) as such (Jet actually became a US citizen in 2000. "I've lived in America for 20 years and nobody has ever criticised me for it, so I don't understand why there's been such a fuss about me getting Singaporean citizenship," he said.). Regarding this, even websites run by Japanese maniac fans say that Jet Li officially acquired US citizenship in 2000, right after he remarried Nina in 1999 and had a baby girl, and the "Contemporary Foreigner Directory 2016" also states that he acquired US citizenship in 2000.
  • According to a biography source I have owned for some time, he first began living in California, USA, around 1988 when he was married to his first wife, and he had lived in the USA before 1997. Another source I recently obtained also states that around 1988 he was struggling to obtain US citizenship. It also explains that he returned to Hong Kong to film "Once Upon a Time in China" (1991), and that he remarried his second wife Nina in 1999 and then settled in California.
  • Also, he wrote that in 1997, after filming the Hong Kong movie "Hitman" (April 1998), Jet underwent surgery to remove a mole in the middle of his nose on the advice of a lama, and when he returned home that same day, he received an "international phone call" from Richard Donner inviting him to star in "Lethal Weapon 4" (1998). So, I don't think he was still living in the US at that point (it's possible that he accepted and moved to the US immediately that same year, but he probably hadn't obtained US citizenship yet).
  • Regarding Jet Li's real name, the newly obtained source also states that it is 「李陽中」"Li Yangzhong." The source I had previously also states that his real name is 「李陽中」"Li Yangzhong," and explains that he started working at Eastern Production, a film production company he founded in 1992, and that he uses his real name,「李陽中」"Li Yangzhong," when producing. These sources were published by a publisher specializing in films, and the writers are experts on Hong Kong kung fu actors, so I would like to edit the Japanese version of the article to follow the source of the biography published in Japan. Thanks. --みしまるもも (talk) 02:44, 17 July 2024 (UTC) add --みしまるもも (talk) 02:53, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

James Blunt article

[edit]

You might find it amusing that Blunt has said to interviewers that he trolls the article and changes the date of birth. So who knows.... Risker (talk) 22:49, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Risker, can you clarify that? I'm kinda confused cuz my English isn't that good, and I'm not that familiar with the western culture. Thedarkknightli (talk) 23:07, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Blunt has given interviews to reporters. They will ask him about the Wikipedia article about him. He tells them that he edits it to change the date of birth, as a joke. Risker (talk) 23:15, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for dropping by and letting me know, @Risker. Happy editing!

Alanis Morissette

[edit]

The paragraph added is meant to be a larger summation of her work and later career identity, not just an other activity like dabbling in acting or podcasting. So, it does belong in the summary. It goes beyond activism with education and other ventures. I'm sure this is what she would want. Plus, she has been an entrepreneur for not just these later pursuits, but owning touring companies in the past and other businesses. Please allow the changes to remain as is. Thank You. Cruzado (talk) 23:19, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cruzado: Bullshit. While you claimed I had reverted "a legitimate update" "without reason or explanation", I did explain (see this and this). Kindly stop disrupting the article or I'll report you at WP:ANI. Thedarkknightli (talk) 00:42, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, advocacy and activism are two different things. Activism is a much more direct involvement, which does not apply here. Greta Thunberg is an activist, NOT Alanis. Alanis is a mental health and women's empowerment advocate, not activist. Education, publishing on the subject of spiritual healing and holistic wellness is definitely not activism at all. You are lumping together a bunch of things into a misguided header. You have a right to opinion, but Alanis is indeed notable for this, having been expanding her career into it for over a decade, with a desire to continue to do so.
All that, plus the various touring and production companies she has owned, through the years makes her an entrepreneur. Though maybe less notable than the advocacy and education aspects of her career.
Let me try to explain why I am doing this edit. So, we can hopefully avoid escalating this.
I happened to notice this very contribution was trying to be added by what appears to be her management company (CrushMalibu) on Sept 11th, but was flagged for copyright (the text apparently having been copied from a website). So, I took it upon myself to rewrite it (paraphrasing in the proper tone) and finding citations, to help. I've always been a fan. That is what Wikipedia is about. Everyone contributing, helping. If you want to report this, be my guest. But you are the one disturbing this legitimate contribution, which is apparently approved by the living person for whom this article is about. I am just trying to do what is right. Trying to threaten me for doing what I think is a correct contribution is a harassing and abusive behavior. So, if you really want to get the admin involved. Go ahead. You are in the wrong here. I left you a very nice message, you responded cursing and threatening. Please just stop, and let it go. Cruzado (talk) 09:06, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't get a chance to respond to the complaint post you made before being closed. So, I will respond here for the record.
First, "move added content to the body" is NOT a reason or explanation. It is a description of your actions, not why you chose to start drastically changing my contributions. If you are significantly changing someone's contribution like that you need to explain why, not just summarize what can be obviously seen.
From the start, I came here to try to open a dialog, and explain what I was doing and why. I was polite. You have no interest in debate and discussion. Instead, you exhibit an authoritative attitude and immediately resorted to threatening me, which I checked to be sure, does indeed violate Wikipedia civility rules. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Civility Adding "kindly" to your orders and threats doesn't make it civil.
Wikipedia encourages editors to work collaboratively and resolve conflicts through discussion. If someone uses the threat or actions of reporting another user as a way to force compliance or to win an argument, it is considered bullying or harassment. Even if the intent is to report what you think is bad behavior, the manner in which the threat and actions are made can be seen as manipulative and coercive, which undermines the collaborative editing environment. I'm deciding how and if I will escalate this further for proper dispute resolution. In the future, kindly show people disagreeing with your edits more respect. Nicki Minaj Profile Photo

[edit]

Do not revert the image on Nicki Minaj page. This is a screenshot from a YOUTUBE video uploaded and owned by VOGUE, LINK: [1]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnUYLVW9Qj0 therefore it is a violation and also not a photo worthy or typical of being a profile photo. No celebrity biographies have interview SCREENSHOTS as photos.

I have reported you for bias behavior and advised my mentor to assist me in taking action against you. I have also sent an email to Vogue to also take action since their work is used in a screenshot without permission. Further action is being taken.

We have a large group of contributors monitoring this page constantly, so your bias edits won't go far. This only gives us more ammo to report you further btw. Consider this a second warning. Uhohbackagain (talk) 10:15, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
