2024

[edit]

In May of 2020, there were 179 cases at CCI and roughly 97,652 articles to check. In May of 2024, despite my best efforts, the cases number just over 200 and the articles to check number probably twice that (I think it's in the 205k range?). This is why I push to try and nip copyright issues in the bud where I can, and this is why I, at this point, have minimal patience for people that refuse to understand copyright issues. Newer people just learning them is perfectly understandable. Those that have been around should know better. If I believe this to be insurmountable, which I've started to feel at times, then maybe it's time to move on. Wizardman 22:27, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to be of better help to you in the other cases once I am done with my long term dedication of cleaning articles on moths. Scorpions1325 (talk) 05:00, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ruigeroeland

[edit]

I have looked at every article in the Ruigeroeland CCI at least once. I was wondering if you could help me consolidate the remaining diffs into 3 pages since only 2,600 articles remain. Scorpions1325 (talk) 08:44, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We are now down to 1700 articles and only 5 pages. Scorpions1325 (talk) 20:56, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1,000 now. I guess it can all be consolidated into one page. Scorpions1325 (talk) 22:55, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for participating in the June 2024 backlog drive!

Petter Karlsson (musher)

[edit]

I'm not sure what you mean by "do it right". I didn't do anything, but rather the AfC tool did the work itself after I approved the creation. SL93 (talk) 02:32, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if that seemed harsh, the frustration wasn't directed at you but at the AfC tool itself, since it seems to create duplicate project banners frequently and not catch stuff in the shell. Unfortunately script work is way beyond me so I have no idea how one would address that. Wizardman 21:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page edits with AWB

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed your recent edit to Talk:Patrick Ford (boxer) with AWB. Unfortunately, the AWB developers haven't kept up with all the changes to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, so your removal of |blp=no added the page to Category:Biography articles without living parameter. In future edits, please be sure you're not removing |blp= from the shell, even if AWB recommends it. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:19, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Noted, thanks; I just turned off the cosmetic changes option since I'll just be using AWB on talk for the foreseeable future in any event. Wizardman 23:13, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Islands of Scotland topic

[edit]

I am probably being a bit dense but I am hoping you can help explain the current status of this topic. In 2011 your edit closed the discussion with "consensus to promote as Featured Topic." It is now listed as a good topic but somehow I missed this change and cannot find any evidence of when or how it happened. Clues gratefully received. Ben MacDui 13:59, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it was changed as the result of Wikipedia:Featured topic removal candidates/Islands of Scotland/archive1. Might want to check with GamerPro64 about that, since I haven't touched the topic process in... honestly I don't know how many years. Wizardman 14:48, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My old account got stolen

I've just come across an email that arrived on 2 July. It says that someone, from IP address 111.88.195.162, has changed the email address of my account "Highdoom".

Question

[edit]

Hello,

I am trying to work through the extended protected backlog and I ran into the request on this page.

Talk:Attempted assassination of Donald Trump/Archive 9#editextendedprotected

It is in an archived talk page, but is part of the request backlog. Would it be permissible to change the parameters to answered, just to help clear the backlog?

Thanks, Kingsmasher678 (talk) 21:34, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since it's in an archived talk page I think you're safe changing those, yes. Wizardman 21:35, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Steve Olin.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Steve Olin.JPG. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion on a user page, please?

[edit]

Hi Wizard. ‘Recently active admins’ says you’re about? I could use a second opinion on this user page. First instinct was it could need Oversight, but on second look? Not too sure. More than likely a kid that WP:GFYE would apply to, but not sure if RevDel or OS is needed. Any thoughts?

Thanks. MM (Give me info.) (Victories) 16:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I got beaten to it, already deleted. OS isn't needed in this case. Wizardman 16:49, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Block Request

[edit]

Hi! Hope you are having a nice day. You came up as a recently active admin.

There's been an IP user (190.141.160.124) who has been repeatedly vandalising pages related to sharks (only 1 day after being unblocked). I think I've sent around 10 level 4 warnings and this point and they've been reported to WP:AIV an hour ago by another user but they keep vandalising immediately after a revert and no admin has checked AIV in an hour.

I was wondering if you could take a look and potentially block them if you see fit, as it's becoming annoying to have to constantly revert all their unexplained blanking and factual errors over the last hour.

Thanks! :) MolecularPilot 23:34, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Hello Wizardman. I've noticed that you have added |living=no to a lot of talk pages, but it seems some of these people are still alive. Can you please correct these errors? Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:22, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
