Nominator's rationale: Not likely to grow given cricket's lack of popularity in the United States. –Aidan721 (talk) 18:55, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - It may not be a popular sport now, but it seems likely to grow in the future. California is the place that is being targeted by Major League Cricket and the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics for cricket to grow, and the Bay Area in particular has a large South Asian diaspora which is noted for being big supporters of cricket. So I would at least hold off for a few years before considering such a merge. GreekApple123 (talk) 19:24, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I feel this is WP:TOOSOON. As stated above, the U.S. has been a center of attention for cricket as of late and is being targeted in anticipation for the T20 World Cup next year, as well as 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Not to mention, the introduction of Major League Cricket has further enticed major resurgence of the sport in the U.S., and California. Right now, we are at the epicenter of the growth of the cricket in the U.S. and should wait and see if it truly takes off, or just flips dead (hoping it’s the former, though! Fingers crossed…). Cheers!! --WellThisIsTheReaper Grim 00:17, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but the opposite is true as well with regards to WP:TOOSOON. You could argue that these categories were created too soon, and should wait for the growth to occur after these major upcoming events. –Aidan721 (talk) 02:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I suppose so. Nevertheless, I believe that we should keep the category as is (for now, at least!). Cheers! --WellThisIsTheReaper Grim 05:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now without prejudice to recreation when more articles are available. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:50, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now not enough articles right now to justify a separate category. If the situation changes in 5 years time as there are a lot more notable cricket teams there, then it would be reasonable to re-create/unmerge the category then. But we shouldn't be keeping this based on the hope and expectation that more teams may exist in the future. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:42, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now as above - a category on Wikipedia won't encourage these clubs to be established, but once they are, there can be a category for them. Crowsus (talk) 17:43, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Immigrants to the Kingdom of Prussia. I will manually purge Martynas Mažvydas. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:21, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename to align with parent Category:People from the Kingdom of Prussia and to clarify that this is about the powerful German state of the 18th/19th century. Purge Martynas Mažvydas who migrated to the Duchy of Prussia, in the 16th century a fief of Poland. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:49, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:22, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, trivial intersection with language family. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:30, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge, creating 3 categories for 4 families is clearly a matter of overcategorization. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:14, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge all as nominated. (Fingers crossed XFDC can handle closing this discussion!) (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:17, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, the female serial killers tree is not well-populated and creating micro categories is not helpful for navigation. Also per WP:OCEGRS, female serial killers of any of these nationalities in particular is not a notable topic in itself. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge or reverse merge, both categories have the same scope. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:53, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge, Nazi Germany was not a former German state, it was just Germany. Considering the content of the single article, it may be moved to Category:Latvian expatriates in Germany instead. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:41, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: I'm not sure if "Proms" is a proper word here or not which is why I'm not sending this as a C2D fix. Gonnym (talk) 10:32, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename all as nominated. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:19, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Run on title that is unnecessarily long. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:13, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Do you have any intent to rename Category:Fictional superhuman features or abilities or Category:Fiction about superhuman features or abilities? This refers to Superhuman, is that okay? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 20:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If this succeeds then yes, I'd probably remove the "features" naming from them as well. I personally think "ability" is vague enough that it can even encompass inherent features like immortality. I didn't want to mix characters and their abilities into the same discussion and risk it becoming a trainwreck. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:47, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then support. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 18:35, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Fictional psychics. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:18, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Downmerge per WP:OVERLAPCAT. Most subcategories would fall under psychic powers. Illusionism would not, and should be purged from the category entirely. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:45, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete per WP:NONDEF. Made by blocked, disruptive user. Category:Fictional parasites and parasitoids is the defining version of this category, but I'd assume very little, if any articles from this one would qualify that aren't already there. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:00, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete/merge/split Category:Fictional characters with absorption or parasitic abilities into Category:Fictional characters who can copy superpowers and Category:Fictional parasites and parasitoids. AHI-3000 (talk) 20:49, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (except subcat). (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:47, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Yeah, this is just straight up WP:NONDEF and made by a blocked, disruptive user. Making a deal with... whoever is not a primary character trait, just a technicality of the story. Of course, Category:Fictional characters who have made pacts with devils‎ should not be upmerged and simply removed from the category, because it does not specifically mean they received magic. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional characters with evocation or summoning abilities

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename as per nom. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:48, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The main article is "evocation", but I think that in a fictional context, this name is much more simple and recognizable. It also implies a role rather than just having the power, which would not really be defining in some characters. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:38, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rename I am neutral between the proposal and Category:Fictional evokers. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 20:59, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am perfectly fine with that too, either are better than the current title. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:48, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rename with a slight preference for Category:Fictional summoners. HouseBlastertalk 00:29, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional characters with healing abilities

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Fictional superhuman healers. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:49, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category:Fictional physicians - yes, that's defining. But simply having "healing abilities" encompasses everyone who can cast a spell in a JRPG (or in the case of Ana from Overwatch, who can shoot a gun). The only way I can see to save this category is to purge everyone who isn't specifically a healer by trade. Category:Fictional characters with accelerated healing would be purged from the category, as they are not healers in the traditional sense. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:37, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment @User:Zxcvbnm also if you also want to include a conversation about merging Category:Fictional characters with accelerated healing‎ in this discussion, you need to include it your nomination where exactly you want to merge it into, tag the category and your proposal for all of its subcategories (ex: Category:Anime and manga characters with accelerated healing. JDDJS (talk to mesee what I've done) 15:22, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JDDJS: Actually it doesn't need to be merged anywhere, I was wrong. It's already in Category:Fictional characters by personal physical abilities which is good enough. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 15:25, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Fictional characters with death or rebirth abilities. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:23, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This doesn't seem like a defining ability or trait for a character and comes with a heavy dose of WP:SUBJECTIVECAT - is being able to steal one's soul collecting or destroying it? The exception is with Category:Fictional personifications of death, but we have an older category for that already. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:15, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: I find it very tough to see how this category is necessary - it feels like either WP:SUBJECTIVECAT or WP:OVERLAPCAT. So these things are part of a society, but history, brands and events aren't? ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 06:12, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The concept of a "wand fighter" makes no sense, as they are magicians who fight with magic, not the wand itself. Of course, it was made by a blocked account. The category is nonsensical and should be deleted. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:28, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NARROWCAT, these contain 3 or fewer articles and have been checked with no potential additions found. Very narrow intersection of specific sport+place, created along with others which contain more members so are viable. A few places did not have a Sportsperson parent above them for the ideal upmerge location, but user:Grutness has kindly rectified this over the past week. Please let me know of anything I'm doing wrong with the formatting of this nomination as I intend to do the same for a few other very small cats for other British localities and sports.
