Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

Rolando 1208 opposes the inclusion of English pronunciations of loan words per MOS:DUALPRON. He has edit warred to remove the English pronunciation from articles such as Ivory Coast: [1][2][3][4].

Following a block, he has continued a slow burn edit war to remove this via an IP to evade WP:SCRUTINY: [5][6][7][8]

Note that Rolando used the IP 178.120.23.165 to evade his block. See [9][10] where they discuss this edit to move a response to their comment.

Other examples of overlap with this range:

@Danlaycock Thanks for this. In addition to the diffs you've provided (and all the other examples of overlap in the histories), there is also circumstantial evidence that connects them all to Belarus. Those IPs all geolocate there, while Rolando has been defensive about Belarus in the past ([25] [26] [27] [28]), and clearly has some familiarity with the language ([29]), though the latter is probably not important since they have an interest in a wide array of languages. In their edit history, it crops up noticeably more than any other country, too (especially around March/April 2020). This would obviously not be sufficient to draw a connection in isolation, but in the context of repeatedly editing the same pages it feels indicative. For full disclosure I do live in Belarus currently, that doesn't necessarily link me to one specific IP range. @Danlaycock, what is this about? If you read my talkpage you'll see that I stopped reverting Knight. He added the sources and I stopped reverting him (or them? do you prefer neutral pronouns Knight?). Anyways TDL, do you think this is really necessary, to bring a checkuser? My current country of residency is fine, but I'd rather not have my IP range be public. "Rolando opposes the inclusion of English pronunciations of loan words per MOS:DUALPRON"
No I don't. As long as they have a source. I explained that to Knight in my talkpage. Rolando 1208 (talk) 15:38, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly untrue: there are multiple instances of you removing sourced pronunciations ([30] [31]), and on both of those pages you did it numerous times ([32] [33] [34] [35] [36] [37] [38] [39]). You then carried on removing sourced pronunciations as an IP ([40] [41] [42]) with the same style of edit summaries.
Also note how the IPs have a habit of removing pronunciations with the summary "Unsourced" (one word, first letter capitalised, no dot: [43] [44] [45] [46]), which is something you also have a habit of doing, sometimes even on the same pages ([47] [48] [49] [50]). • This is pretty convincing evidence to me. Izno (talk) 15:48, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, Rolando 1208, because the evidence in whole makes it appear as if you are WP:LOUTSOCKing. Izno (talk) 16:08, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rolando 1208 (please use the above section to reply, not this one; replying to yourself is fine).
Yes, that's what it looks like. Our general advice is "always edit either logged in or out, not both". Both makes it look like you're editing with the intent to evade scrutiny, even if you aren't. The following advice is usually "always log in", because editing logged out does expose your IP. (A few people don't care. Most do. Seems like you're in the second pile.)
I'll be blocking you for a week for the edit warring and the previous block evasion on/about July 25. Continuing to edit logged out during this block will be seen as deliberate evasion and you're likely to end up blocked for much longer. Izno (talk) 17:04, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
