Jack Baker

No intro, no corresponding WP page, and very little point in Googling the name, it being so common. So is he notable? Who can say? We're not told precisely what each quotation refers to, but they're generally comments on the state of financial markets, with all the ephemerality that that implies. • Delete unless notability evidence provided. I've sourced one quote, which also identifies this Jack Baker as "head of equities at Putnam Lovell Securities". I added a link to w:Jack Baker, which is a disambiguation page that doesn't include this person. I also checked WP for pages beginning with "Wikipedia:Articles for discussion/Jack Baker" and found nothing. Considering there is also no WP article for "Putnam Lovell Securities", "Putnam Lovell", or even PL's parent "National Bank Financial" (according to w:List of investment banks), I have doubts we'll get any compelling notability evidence for a second-tier manager of the company. On the other hand, if more of these quotes are found to be sourceable, one might make an argument for notability by frequent quotation. In other words, maybe he's a "go-to" guy for investments news who has a lot of visibility in the press. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 23:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Quantity is irrelevant, as without sources we have no way to know whether the quotes are legitimate, and not merely promoting someone unnotable. The best way to get folks to change from "delete" to "keep" is to source a few more quotes to show this person isn't a one-quote wonder in an obscure context. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 18:00, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
• Comment: I've sourced two more quotes, and I see a pattern developing. Baker seems to be a business executive that someone at CNN tagged as a person to ask for opinions on transient market issues. This does not encourage me to change my vote, especially given that the quotes are about passing events, supplied without any context to make them meaningful. (The contexts can be extracted from the sources, but the more context a quote needs, the less valuable it tends to be.) I also have to wonder whether this person wasn't more than a flash-in-the-pan, given that 3 randomly-picked quotes all occurred within 8 months, all from one news agency; several other quotes had no Google presence except our own article; and we still have no other independent info about who he is. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 18:14, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
