Etymology
From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *mgel- (“wolf”). Cognate with (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Mingrelian გერი (geri) and (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Laz მგერი (mgeri), გვერი (gveri), მჯვერი (mcveri).
Ačaṙean derives from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 360: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "hyx" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. (compare Armenian գայլ (gayl, “wolf”) and dialectal գել (gel)). This is tentatively accepted by Starostin, however Khintibidze disputes this arguing for native origin, who discusses the possible relation to the root of ეგრისი (egrisi) (*გრ- (*gr-)) or (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Svan თხე̄რე (txēre) which replaced the Georgian word due to taboo.
