Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic изгои (izgoi). Asynchronically analyzable as из- (iz-) +‎ го́ить (góitʹ), from Proto-Slavic *gojiti (to heal, feed), the latter being a causative form of жить (žitʹ), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷeyh₃-.
