[edit]Ultimately from Proto-Semitic *gamal-; compare Arabic جَمَل (jamal) and Hebrew גָּמָל (gāmā́l),[1] Proto-Nakh *imkal, Old Georgian აქლემი (aklemi) and Tocharian A oṅkaläm (“elephant”).
