[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀸𑀲 (kappāsa), from Sanskrit कर्पास (karpāsa, “cotton”), ultimately from Munda. Possibly related to Sanskrit कर्पट (karpaṭa), whence Hindi कपड़ा (kapṛā, “cloth, garment”).
