[edit]Ultimately from Sanskrit जातिफल (jātiphala), जातीफल (jātīphala). Cognate with Gujarati જાયફળ (jāyaphaḷ), Hindi जायफल (jāyphal), Punjabi ਜਾਇਫਲ (jāiphal), Bengali জায়ফল (jaẏophol), Assamese জাঁইফল (zãiphol).
