Hindi
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain.
- Dasa suggests from a compound of ढंग (ḍhaṅg, “manner, way, method, means, behaviour, tact”) + Sanskrit कौशल (kauśala, “dexterity, cleverness, skillfulness”).
- Platts suggests derivation from ढकोसना (ḍhakosnā, “to gulp down”), with further etymology unknown.
- Otherwise, perhaps related to ढकना (ḍhaknā, “to cover, conceal; to be covered, concealed”).
