Etymology

Borrowed from Arabic حَقّ (ḥaqq). Cognate with Hindi हक़ (haq), Punjabi ਹੱਕ (hakka) / حَق (ḥaq), Gujarati હક (hak), Marathi हक्क (hakka), Tamil அக்கு (akku). Doublet of হকিকত (hokikot).
