[edit]Cognate with Aramaic פֹּולא (pōlā, “bean”) and Arabic فُول (fūl, “fava beans”). Ultimately perchance from Proto-Semitic *pūl- (“bean, corn, seed, grains, little pieces”); possibly distantly related to Egyptian prj (“to emerge”) and prt (“growing season”).
