Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic מִּטּוּל (miṭṭūl). From a contraction of מִן (min, from) + טִּלָל (ṭillālā, the protection of). Possibly surviving in ܛܠܵܐ (ṭlā, for, to).
