[edit]Shortened from Fratzengesicht (“joker face”), from fratzen (“silly talk, jokes”), probably borrowed from Italian frasche (“nonsense”), plural of frasca (“vanity, caprice”).[1]
Cognate with Dutch fratsen.[2]
