On the evening of Nov. 7, Hoose wrote a sentimental letter to his wife, Georgia. “Here I am, 61 years later, at the place I was born on June 2, 1920. Amazingly, I remember a few features from when I was six. Little has changed—just different neighbors. It is beautiful here. … Am off and down the Mt. to Kiukiang tomorrow.
