Usage notes
[edit]- The German word is used chiefly when the identity of the person is either unknown or irrelevant (as in “someone”, “anyone”). Otherwise Mensch is preferred in many contexts. For example, one would say Sie ist ein netter Mensch. (“She’s a nice person.”) Person would sound odd in this sentence.
