turn off the lights

[edit]

This is the verb you use to say that in Spanish, right? I grew up with this and it isn't my native language so I assume it's at least American Spanish if not universal. Lollipop (talk) 01:06, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Lollipop: The standard verb is apagar. I've added a missing sense to this page for turning off the flow of gas/water. It's logical that shutting off electricity could be an extension of that sense. I don't see many Google Books results for "cerrar/cerré/cerró las luces", but they're not limited to Latin America. Ultimateria (talk) 01:33, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay thanks. But if it helps, I learned it as a singular ... cerrar la luz . Lollipop (talk) 02:02, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see. Still not very common from what I can tell. Ultimateria (talk) 02:17, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
