Greek potato?

How can Ancient Greek have a word for the eye of a potato? No Greek ever saw a potato before 1492. -PierreAbbat 04:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

sir, i dont know whether my request is correct or not. eventhen i am expressing a view. wiktionary is an interlingual dictionary. so translations are very important in that. we all know that the organ "eye" had word-good translation for every language. so a person can copy the translations for the words like eye to any wiktionary. but now the names are given in the parent language. so if the names of the languages are given as codes (en: for english, ru: for russian any body can copy it and paste in their language wiki. it will fasten the growth of the small wikies. (you all know that week growth of small wiktionaries is a major problom in the future of wiktionary concept} this will be a boost in their growth--Svellakat (talk) 18:06, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

We did consider that idea years ago, but we decided not to do it, for a couple of reasons. First, in the days when we used language codes instead of names, alphabetic order was a constant problem. Second, many editors do not know all the language codes and sometimes they get confused. Once a word was added in the nv language, then a few months later another editor thought it was supposed to be nl and changed it. Then someone who speak Dutch recognized that it was not Dutch and deleted it. It creates too many problems for us. —Stephen ^(Talk) 04:18, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
