Noun for a royal person
[edit]Interestingly Chambers 1908 has the sense "a royal person, a king" but marks it obsolete. So I assume that the modern casual sense where we talk about "the royals" flying abroad etc. is something that arose separately later. Equinox ◑ 21:22, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
US government security classification
[edit]Apparently "royal" superseded "top secret" in September 1980. Might be too much of a code-word to be considered a part of real sentences of English. Finding usage isn't easy. Equinox ◑ 03:05, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
