From Proto-Finnic *arvo, borrowed from a (likely Iranian) descendant of Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hargʰás (compare Sanskrit अर्घ (argha, worth, value)), such as Alanic *arγa-.[1] Cognate with Estonian arv, Erzya арсемс (aŕśems, to think) and Moksha -ара (-ara) in мъзяра (məźara, how much).[2] Hungarian ár is borrowed from the same Iranian source.
