- A European black pine (Pinus nigra);
- A Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii);
- A Jeffrey pine (Pinus jeffreyi), principally of California.
- Other similar conifers:
- Matai (Prumnopitys taxifolia), a New Zealand conifer;
- Miro (Pectinopitys ferruginea), also a New Zealand conifer.
