[edit]Inherited from Latin currere, present active infinitive of currō (“run, flow”), probably through an alteration of the older form cure, influenced by verbs like merge. See also scurge. The Latin is from Proto-Italic *korzō, itself from Proto-Indo-European *ḱers- (“to run”).
