[edit]Borrowed from French élasticité, from Ancient Greek ἐλαστός (elastós, “ductile, flexible”), related to ἐλαύνω (elaúnō, “to strike, beat out”), itself of uncertain origin. Equivalent to elastisch + -iteit.
