[edit]Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish ارغوان (ergavan, erguvan), from Persian ارغوان (arğavân, arğuvân, “purple; Judas tree”), from Akkadian 𒅈𒂵𒌋𒌋𒉡 (argamannu). Doublet of adžùvān.
