[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *lankás (“bow”), from Proto-Indo-European *lenk- (“to bend”), compare Latvian lanka (“lowland”), Old Prussian lunkis (“angle”). Cognates include Old Church Slavonic лѫкъ (lǫkŭ, “bow”), Belarusian and Russian лук (luk, “bow”).[1]
