[edit]From Proto-Bantu *mʊ̀ntʊ̀, from Proto-Bantu *-ntʊ̀ (“some, any”). Cognate with Swahili mtu (“person, someone”), Kikuyu mũndũ (“human being, person”) and Tswana motho (“person”). Doublet of ekintu (“thing, object”), ahantu (“place”), and obuntu (“humanity”).
