[edit]Attested circa 1300 (serea). From Old Galician-Portuguese *serẽa, from Late Latin sirēna, from Sīrēn (“siren”), from Ancient Greek Σειρήν (Seirḗn). Cognate with Portuguese sereia and Spanish sirena.
