A kelpie was a shapeshifting water demon native to Great Britain and Ireland.[1] Able to take any form, a kelpie usually chose that of a horse with a bulrush mane. After luring unwary travellers onto their backs, they dragged them underwater and ate them, allowing the entrails to float to the surface of the water. In Greek mythology Hippocamps were the fish-tailed horses of the sea. They were depicted as composite creatures with the head and fore-parts of a horse and the serpentine-tail of a fish. In mosaic art they were often had green scales and fish-fin manes and appendages.
