PART 1: PREPOSITIONS
Una preposición es una palabra que explica el tiempo, el espacio, o la relación lógica entre las otras partes de
la oración. Las preposiciones conectan las otras palabras de la oración para que el lector u oyente pueda
comprender el mensaje.
Las preposiciones van seguida por los sustantivos y sólo pueden ir en l final de la frase en ciertas situaciones
como en las preguntas.
Example:
My t- shirt is made of cotton. What is your t – shirt made of?
Existen preposiciones con significados muy parecidos y para identificar cuándo utilizarías es necesario conocer
algunas reglas.
1. IN / ON / AT: en, a
IN: para meses, estaciones, partes del día, año, habitación, país, ciudad, continente, lugares abiertos.
ON: Para días, fecha, superficie, lado (right, left) piso de un edificio, televisión, radio.
AT: para la hora, night, noon, midnight, school, work, home.
2. OF / FROM: de
OF: para pertenencia, relación, material, unidad de medida.
FROM: para origen, procedencia, punto de partida.
3. FOR / BY: Para, por
FOR: para duración, a razón de, el uso de algo.
BY: para autoría, cercanía, medios de transporte.
4. IN / INTO
IN: para locaciones.
INTO para el movimiento hacia algo.

Para identificarla preposición el lector debe concentrar su atención en el sustantivo que precede al espacio en
blanco y así aplicar las reglas de uso mencionadas en la guía. En este caso(WORLD) que significa mundo se
refiere a un espacio amplio que requiere la preposición “IN” y (HEART) que significa corazón se relaciona con
la preposición “WITH” para formar la expresión “con el corazón” ya que no podría ser detrás de (BEHIND), ni
debajo (UNDER), ni fuera de (OUT) el corazón, tal como lo sugieren las otras opciones.
