This blog is a creative resource archive for roleplayers, writers, graphic designers, coders, and more. Everything here is FREE and my inbox is open for questions and promos. Tag me in your resources using #evansyhelp.
August marks 10 years of evansyhelp. A whole decade! This blog and this community got me through two of the worst times of my life and I’ll forever be grateful for y'all.
I think now’s a good time to step back and take a break. I haven’t been actively involved in the RPC in years now and it feels like it’s time.
This blog will of course stay up as an archive and my resources will still be available, but I won’t be active.
If we are or have been mutuals at any point (including sideblogs, rp blogs, etc.) and you want to stay in touch, I’m on Discord and I still have an active-ish multifandom tumblr, so shoot me an IM and I’ll happily swap info. I’m not online every day so pls don’t panic if I don’t reply right away — I’ll pop in throughout September to check messages.
I won’t say this is forever, but it could be a while.
Be kind to yourselves and each other. See ya later ✌💚

Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.
No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.
We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.
Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.
And they especially are not scabs.
*that’s not even how it ends that’s a statistically likely and creatively boring way for it to end. Why would you even want to read that.
Btw, if you’re new to tumblr, or even if you’re not new to tumblr but don’t know, if there’s any little features that annoy you or QOL things you want, chances are you should download Xkit to more fine-tune customize your experience. Not sure if this is still common knowledge as it used to be, but it’s a great help.
For the unfamiliar: there are three extensions called XKit, for historical reasons. The one you want is called “XKit Rewritten”. It is a browser extended which can do many things to improve your Tumblr experience. One of my favourites is called “panorama”, which simply makes your dash actually use whatever horizontal space you give it, rather than occupying no more than the middle third of your screen and filling the rest with empty space for no good reason.
Since it is a browser extension, XKit is only useful for the browser version of the site, but it improves things so much that you may find you never want to use Tumblr Mobile ever again.
To add onto this even more, I actually use a combination of both “Newxkit” (which no longer updates, but still has some features I find too good to do without, like mouseover reblogs and other QOL tweaks) and “Xkit Rewritten”, which is a browser extension that allows you to, as said above, disable tumblr live.
For reference on how great xkit is though, I didn’t even know tumblr had changed its layout to try and look like The Devil’s Web because it’s like this
To anyone new, “XKit” (the original tm) has been discontinued since 2016 or sth, meaning the original coder no longer updates it. “XKit Rewritten” is made by completely different people who continue the good work the original xkit guy started.
Idk anything about “Newxkit” but if it no longer updating, then “Xkit Rewritten” is the most up-to-date one among the three of them.

^ these are loop earplugs and they help you manage sound, these work great for migraines and people with sound sensitivity bc of autism/trauma/anxiety, etc. they come with multiple sized ear tips and the sound muffler silicone ring. I bought the loop engage plus, I’m a very burnt out + overwhelmed person. these make my annoying clock go away without me having to take out the batteries.
^ flare earplugs, but I consider them more ear funnels? they allow more airflow into your ears for clearer sound. these work great for tinnitus, anxiety and autistic people. I haven’t tried these yet and they have a lot less reviews on tiktok compared to loop.
if you need to search out cheaper brands I’ve only seen alternatives similar to loop on Amazon, look into decibels and your daily life needs, especially if you work. I feel my engage pro is great for daily home life with older children, pets, natural noises in your day, school, or work. but in a louder work setting like a factory, construction, daycare, or a theme park, I’m afraid these wouldn’t work as good as experience might. I recommend checking out tiktok + reddit reviews if you’re unsure.
My dad and I use Earasers and love them. They’re designed for really loud environments like concerts (19dB noise reduction) but I use them for pretty much any time there’s background noise that’s distracting. You can still talk/have a conversation/hear things in the normal human speech range but it greatly reduces all the background noise and makes it so much easier to hear.
You can only write regularly if you’re willing to write badly. You can’t write regularly and well. One should accept bad writing as a way of priming the pump, a warm-up exercise that allows you to write well.
It’s always a shame when you put hours of effort into a gifset, only for it to get 60 notes. And now, as people are reblogging less and less, the success of your gifset relies even more on using tags effectively to expose it to the maximum number of people possible.
Of course, at the end of the day, you should create for you, not notes, but that doesn’t stop it from hurting. So, without further ado:
Guide to Tagging Gifsets
There are three main categories of tag, which I’ll explain one at a time: fandom tags, sourceblog tags, and user tags. But it’s key to remember only the first 20 tags are searched for; tags after that are irrelevant. So make sure every tag counts. It’s also a good idea to visit a tag before you use it; if there’s hardly any posts in that tag, it’s probably not worth including.
Fandom (edit) Tags
Tags relevant to each fandom. I’ll use Marvel as an example:
#tvedit, #filmedit, #[genre]edit, eg. #scifiedit
#[fandom]edit, eg. #marveledit, #mcuedit. Sometimes uses an abbrievation, particularly if the name of the fandom is quite long
#[show/tv]edit, eg. #infinitywaredit, #wandavisionedit. Only relevant if the fandom had multiple pieces of media.
#[character]edit, eg. #natasharomanoffedit. Mainly applicable to larger fandoms.
#[ship]edit, eg. #sambuckyedit. Mainly applicable to larger fandoms.
#[actor]tag. Note that this is sometimes the full name, sometimes first-initial-followed-by-surname. Check the tags to find the relevant one.
There are, of course, other types, but these are the main ones. It’s a good idea to use these ones before tracked tags, as it makes it easier for people to find the content they’re looking for.
Sourceblog Tags
A sourceblog is a blog dedicated to one fandom/character/genre etc, usually run by multiple people. Their main purpose is collecting every relevant post for whatever it’s dedicated to, in one place for easy access.
They usually have names including ‘source’, 'daily’, 'gifs’, or 'edits’
Most sourceblogs have a tracked tag, often the name of the blog, and may also track the main edit tag. In that case, you may not need to bother tagging the sourceblog as well.
However, many sourceblogs go inactive, and so it’s a good idea when tagging one for the first time to have a quick look in the archive and see if they’re active. Just note that most sourceblogs don’t use a tag such as 'thanks for tagging’ to indicate they’re reblogging from the tracked tag.
Sourceblogs usually have a lot of followers, all interested in whatever the blog’s dedicated to, and therefore it’s an excellent idea to tag any relevant ones.
You can search our blog to find relevant source blogs and their tracked tags.
User Tags
These are not always exclusive to edits, so pay attention to what people say they’d like to be tagged in. You can usually find people’s tracked tag in their blog description, pinned post or about page.
I’d like to highlight - don’t be afraid to tag people in your gifs! Most people love to be tagged. Although be aware it is common courtesy to only tag people that you follow/are mutuals with.
Most user tags are either #user[x] or the blog’s url. Most people state what they do/don’t like being tagged in, but if they don’t, just go by what they reblog.
Just be aware of gifmakers that you follow, so that the next time you make a post, you can check their blog and see if it is appropriate to tag them
Usertags are best to use after fandom and sourceblog tags, to fill it all the way up to 20 tags, personal blogs are not dedicated to one thing only (usually), and therefore a lower proportion of followers will be in that fandom.
Finally, it’s also good to use non-edit tags: for the fandom, character and ship. This means it’s easy for people looking in the tags to find content.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! And if you run a sourceblog we haven’t yet added to our directly, please send us the url of the blog and we’ll add it right away.
