Sorry, Angelina and Clint: Here's who got snubbed at the Globes

The Golden Globes gave plenty of people—including Quvenzhané Wallis, nominated for Annie—reason to celebrate. But some huge movie names had no such luck. Who got left out of the pack?

First of all, two films that had potential as awards players were shut out of the nominations completely—Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. Though neither were seen as sure things, many at least expected the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to give those directors an invite to the party.

Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is a sci-fi pic, and genre fare is always a hard sale when it comes to awards shows. That said, the HFPA didn’t fall into a wormhole this morning; the movie got only one nomination, for Hans Zimmer’s score.

Gone Girl‘s director, David Fincher, may have scored a nod in his category, but the film was left out of the Best Motion Picture – Drama list.

Moving onto the acting categories: Laura Dern failed to earn a nomination for her heartbreaking work in Wild, though it’s hard to complain about nominations for Jessica Chastain’s icy turn in A Most Violent Year or any kudos for Meryl Streep ever.

It’s always hard to know which direction the Globes might take when it comes to the Comedy or Musical categories (see last year’s hilarious nominees Nebraska, American Hustle, and The Wolf of Wall Street.) But Chris Rock didn’t score any kudos for his Top Five, and Keira Knightley couldn’t double her nominations by being honored for Begin Again, a film which seemed to be tailor made for Globes nominations. In fact, the Best Actress Comedy or Musical category came with loads of surprises, including a nomination for Julianne Moore for Maps to the Stars and the aforementioned Wallis nomination for Annie. Some of us are particularly sad that Jenny Slate got left out of this category for Obvious Child.
