Thomas' surgery is scheduled for March 5, the same date as his 2023 accident. "I consciously embrace it as the initiation of a new chapter. Opting for amputation, I am determined to own March 5th and redefine its significance in my life." Of his decision to undergo the procedure, Thomas can be heard saying to his doctor, "I have to ask myself what kind of life I want to live and the quality of life I want to live.
