i love that — at least in my experience and observations — fandoms with fucked up / morally reprehensible pairings and offbeat storylines are the well-adjusted ones, where (for the most part) people are just happy to have other people to share their weird brainworms with, while fandoms for the most mainstream, crowd-pleasing shows with the most normal and inoffensive pairings are full of fucking rancid energy with people behaving towards each other in such foul ways lol
