it’s four am and i am way too lazy to draw all that stuff out anyway so HERE IS SOME RAMBLING
tomo’s parents are hanako, a kindergarten teacher, and reiji, a chef! yui is her older sister by five years. tomo’s parents divorced when she was seven or so, and she took it pretty hard at the time, but seriously her dad and sister moved half a block away and her parents still have a really good relationship so it ended up having very little long-term impact on her. yousuke is her dad’s boyfriend, he’s a a personal trainer. they’ve been together for so long that she basically regards him as her second dad. they play sports together!
her family’s all in good terms with each other, her dads regard her WHO’S THE WORLD’S MOST SPECIAL LITTLE BABY PRINCESS while her mom is very doting, but tries not to spoil her too much so that she learns some responsibility. her sister is very put-together and responsible and has basically taken it upon herself to keep tomo in check since forever. she’s snarky and critical and rarely thinks to censor herself, so she’s the only one who doesn’t coddle tomo at all. which tomo admittedly needs, so she doesn’t mind it much. they have a good sisterly relationship!
atsuko’s dad is a pretty average joe, he works hard at his day job but is still the sort of fun dad you play soccer on the weekends with and whatnot. her mom is a famous supermodel who spends most of her time abroad; though they talk over the phone and skype and whatnot, there’s still a pretty sizable distance between them.
atsuko thinks her mom is great and really wants to make her proud! but her mom is also super feminine while atsuko is super not, and her mom has yet to clue on to the fact that atsuko has refused to wear a dress since she was eleven, so pretty often she sends atsuko cute girly clothes she finds abroad that she thinks would look good on her and atsuko is like ‘ugh what am i going to do with this’ and ends up either stashing them away or modifying them into stuff she can actually wear, since she likes sewing and fashion design. still, her desire to be a 'worthy’ daughter to her mom causes her to develop some self-esteem issues, which her mom isn’t vaguely aware of because she’s hardly ever around. :( they work it out, though, so it’s cool!
chise’s parents are pretty down to earth people, her dad’s a teacher and her mom’s an accountant. they used to run a bakery together before chise was born, and it was their dream, but after struggling financially for a long time they had to give it up and resort to 'safer’ jobs. her parents still really love baking, though, especially her dad (her mom was more in charge of the financial side of things), and he taught chise how to bake and make rly kawaii bentos. her mom used to teach her stuff ahead of class when she was younger, and they go shopping together a lot!
her older brother by seven years, kenji, is a very bright kid who did remarkably well at school, but instead of going for a Smart People Subject he opted to go after his dream of becoming an actor. he’s yet to meet any success, though, and while their parents aren’t actively discouraging, it’s pretty obvious they’re disappointed in his choices. which is why chise being a mathematic and scientific genius is basically their beacon of hope in life because you won’t be like your brother and ignore your abilities in favor of something you don’t know you’ll be able to do remotely well at, right?? except oops, she’s not interested in pursuing a career in that field at all, and instead wants to focus on social studies which she is not nearly as talented at. so naturally she feels pretty bad about being a 2x disappointment combo to her parents, but she’s too passionate about it to allow it to deter her. ultimately, her parents come to accept her and her brother’s decisions.
also she and her bro are ridiculous nerds together and between the two of them they have an inhuman amount of manga volumes and merchandise. kenji is probably pretty queer too. queer nerd siblings!!!
miu’s mom is a renowned violinist, and her dad is a lawyer. they’re very well-to-do and live in a pretty proper household, though it’s not the extremely rigid/formal kind. she’s very close to both of them, and they always supported and cared for her a lot, though they’re both busy a lot so she’s had to learn how to deal with being left to her own devices, too. they were always telling her what a great kid she is and how proud of her they are, but it wasn’t enough to build up her self confidence, probably because she assumed they’re just saying it because they’re her parents and they want her to feel better about herself.
both miu and her dad agree that miu’s mom is fucking awesome, they are her biggest fans! and miu’s dream is to someday play on stage with her mom. she feels she has a looong way to go until then, though.
claire’s grandpa is a karate master from britain who came to japan when he was younger to improve his technique, met and married her grandmother, and stayed there. at present, he teaches karate at a dojo, and claire has been taught by him since she was very young (you don’t want to piss claire off she will destroy you). his daughter is claire’s mom. claire’s dad divorced her when she was months old, so she has no recollection of him. claire’s mom moved back in with her parents after the divorce, so claire has always had a close relationship with them. after claire’s mom died when she was eight, the two of them took care of her like her parents. though they love her and worry about her very much, she has been increasingly distant from them since her mother’s death. they understand, and don’t try to force it.
