Jimmy Novak is a character from the show Supernatural. He is the vessel of the angel Castiel and spends most of his screen time possessed.
Canon
Castiel first appears in episode 1 of season 4, possessing Jimmy Novak.
We later learn that Jimmy was a devout man, praying "for this". As he is the true vessel for Castiel, he was able to hear and understand the angel. Castiel asked him to prove his faith, before asking for permission to possess Jimmy's body to be able to walk among the humans.
When Castiel later vacates Jimmy's body, he goes back to his family. However is association with the angel and the Winchesters bring demons after them. His daugther, Claire Novak, says yes to Castiel, allowing him to possess her and save her parents. In the end, Jmmy says yes to Castiel again to spare Claire from having to be the vessel.
Jimmy dies and ascends to Heaven after Lucifer explodes Castiel in Season 5.
