I have previously blogged about My Color-coded Guided Notes and how much the students love them because they help them see the connections within the concepts. Example of My Students' Guided Notes: Along with color-coding in the students' guided notes, I also create color-coded input wall charts. I coordinate the color-coding to match the students' notebooks. The students find my color-coded input charts really helpful as a quick resource when they are doing their Worthwhile Wednesday…

Here is our current target. This will stay up until we have mastered addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division equations. To get everyone ready to solve equations we began by working some very simple number sentence problems like: Students were quick to tell me the answer was 4. I then asked them to explain why the answer was 4 and to be able to tell how they figured this out. Here are their answers I counted up from 5 to 9 I subtracted 9 - 5 All perfect answers. I explained that the…

This past week for Stumped in Pre-Algebra we covered One-Step Equations. As part of reviewing the process I created a mini anchor chart to put our Interactive Notebooks. The chart started pretty simple with title and a sample problem for each of the four operations. Next, it was time to start working through the steps of each equation and take helpful notes as we went along. First up was Addition! Pretty simple to find the missing addend in this problem. You have probably been doing this…
