I don’t believe in this day and age a film with this amount of costumes would ever been done! I’ve worked on Bridgerton which I think of as huge but feels tiny in comparison to this. Now it’s so easy to CGI hundreds of extras in costume for a scene but back in 1986 this wasn’t an option and everything single person you see on screen is real and needed a costume. The costumes were designed by the amazing James Acheson who won an Oscar for them along with his others for Dangerous Liaisons and Restoration. Acheson and his team constructed 10,500 costumes in workshops in 5 different countries using 250 people!
