Y'all, we all basically know Alastor is gonna betray the Hotel Crew and the ANGST that comes with that will be awful, BUT IT'LL BE SO MUCH WORSE WHEN HUSK AND NIFFTY WILL BE FORCED TO BETRAY THE OTHERS TOO
Fanfics
I’ve been having a little bit of writer’s block while working on the 2nd part to Only Vengeance Now, so I was wondering what kinda fics you guys would like to see until I can get that done?
What do you as an audience wanna see fic-wise?
Alastor/Vox fic
Alastor fluff
Husk fluff
Angel angst
Niffty fic
Some type of helluva fic (let me know in comments)
other hazbin fic (let me know in comments)
oh…. oh…. I hadn’t even thought of that till now….. So, let’s get into it!
A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about the betrayal to come
Ok, so this post honestly got me thinking, because Alastor is evil; we know that, it’s not news to anyone, and we all know that even if he does have a change of heart at some point, there will be some form of betrayal on his part….. But what does that mean for his underlings? Will Alastor use them as cogs in his master plans? And if he does, how big of a part will they play? And what does that mean for their redemption arcs and their relationships with the others? To really talk about this, I think we need to go character by character, starting with our beloved little expert in pest control: Niffty.
As of right now, we don’t know much about Niffty’s background, all we know is that she’s into bad boys, she’s got a thing about cleaning and keeping the pests at bay, and that her soul is owned by the radio demon himself…. But what might Alastor’s betrayal plans mean for the little one-eyed demoness? In my honest opinion, given what we know about Niffty as of now, I don’t think she would be blamed for most of the wrongdoings, even with clear evidence that she was involved. Niffty is a character that I have often seen infantilized within the fandom due to her small stature and her lively “child-like” demeanor, so I think it would be really easy for the other characters to see any betrayal on her part as pure manipulation. Am I saying that she would willingly go out of her way to hurt the others? No, I’m not, because I don’t think she would. Although I’ve seen her viewed as a very innocent character because of the times she is shown to have these more child-like attributes, it’s important to remember that Niffty is in hell for a reason and we see on multiple occasions that the tiny little creature has a certain bloodlust rooted deep within her, and given that she hasn’t really shown signs of wanting to change anything about herself or shown any interest in redemption, I think it’s safe to say that she has a moral compass in her somewhere that she consciously chooses not to follow. Will that mean that she’d willingly betray Charlie and the others? I think she’s formed too much of a bond with everyone at this point to want to do them any harm if she can help it, but as far as we know, Niffty is an owned soul, and without seeing her contract, it’s safe to assume that Alastor has her in a position where if he demands she jump, all she can really do is ask how high…. But with the way that she’s portrayed and looked at as someone who needs to be handled with kid gloves, I think everyone would have an easier time believing that the big bad radio demon forced her to do something to harm the group.
This brings us to Husk, who as of now is the only other known underling of Alastor. Now, if you’ve seen any of my Husk content, you probably know that I am a Husk fan, so it does pain me to say that I do think that Husk would have a widely different experience than Niffty if/when he’s forced to betray the friends he’s made at the hotel. Why? Well, firstly, Alastor does seem to cater more to women and we’ve seen that he doesn’t seem to get along with men all that well, so I think that he may give Niffty lighter roles to play and fewer strings to pull in whatever his plans are, leaving more of the heavier lifting to Husk. I also think that Husk’s chances of redemption are slightly better than Niffty’s and if they find out that redemption is in fact an option, it’s possible that screwing Husk out of a halo could benefit Alastor in the long run, since Husk says himself that he sold his sole to “save” his power, implying that he wasn’t stripped of it completely, and further implying that Alastor let that bit of power slide so that he could use it to further his own agenda somewhere down the line. I think it’s also important to note that Niffty and Husk will have different experiences in this event because Husk has slowly been changing into a slightly better version of himself while his female counterpart has stayed fairly stagnant in her growth, so I think that not only will everyone is going to expect more from him than they would from her, but he’s accumulating the type of growth that puts him in a position where he has a lot more to lose, so I don’t think the Hazbin gang will expect him to do something to blow that up, and since no one has been around to see Alastor interact with Husk the way we as an audience saw when they were alone, they might not know that Husk would not only be forced to act our Al’s bidding because he’s contractually obligated to, but because Alastor has genuinely put the fear of god into him. I think Angel might get the position he’s in if Husk came to him, but I think Alastor is gonna go full abusive boyfriend here and start trying to cut Husk’s support system off before having the hell cat act out the way he wants him too, and depending on how he does that, Husk feeling alone may make him act out whatever Alastor’s plans are in a bigger way because he may end up in a “well fuck it, if they hate me already” headspace.
Like I said earlier, we all know a betrayal is coming, we even know who is going to be orchestrating it, but we don’t yet know what the radio demon has planned for our favorite Hazbin characters, and I think that’s the truly scary part…. But what makes it scarier? Now knowing that Alastor’s betrayal will likely mean the takedown of two other fan favorites in the show, and that these two characters may have vastly different experiences with how their betrayal is handled by the family they’ve found. Will it make the series a lot more entertaining to see how this plays out? Hell yes. Am I already basically shitting myself now that I’m imagining all the possibilities for how this could play out? Yup. But that just means that Vivzie and her team have done one helluva job with Hazbin Hotel so far, and I for one cannot wait to see where this trip to the underworld takes us next.
Parental M&M Headcanons
I’ve seen a lot of different opinions on whether or not Millie will keep this baby now that it’s been revealed that she’s pregnant (I refuse to even address the rumors circulating the fandom about this not being Moxxie’s baby because…. Come on, it’s Millie and Moxxie.). I personally get why she might not go through with the pregnancy, but I also really love the idea of her and Moxxie as parents and I need to share these headcanons.
- Millie gets the weirdest pregnancy cravings. Like absolutely bizarre and weird, and some even inedible. Moxxie had done extensive research on pregnancy and parenting. He has a whole binder, which has a special section dedicated to making edible versions of some of the inedible things his wife wants to munch on. So far, Millie’s favorite thing has been the sugar glass Moxxie has made.
- Moxxie would absolutely be the type to sing to the baby while Millie was pregnant. Just hours of singing to his wife’s belly. He would carry this on when the baby was born, rocking the baby as he hummed or sang a few of the softer songs to lull them to sleep
- The baby would 100% kick and move around when Moxxie sang show tunes and musical numbers, and when they were born, they would fall asleep to Phantom of the Opera songs
- Although she’d be excited about starting her family, Millie would be pretty upset about not being able to do field work for an extended period of time. She hates paperwork and she isn’t always the happiest when dealing with clients, but she would enjoy being off her feet most of the day when she realized how hard pregnancy could be on her body
- The house would be baby proofed the second Moxxie found out his wife was pregnant. Millie would destroy half the house because in his baby proofing, he would accidentally Millie proof a few things too.
- Both Moxxie and Millie would go Stolas for parenting advice, which would go a long way in making him feel like part of their little family…. Blitz isn’t jealous at all (at least he’s trying not to be).
- The cutest pregnancy photoshoot
- It would be Millie’s idea to name a baby girl after Moxxie’s mother, but they wouldn’t know the sex of the baby until the actual birth…. Though Blitz would try to convince them to do a gender reveal through most of the pregnancy.
- In the event Millie or the baby had any complications during pregnancy or delivery, Moxxie would be ready to go to war advocating for them.
- Postpartum depression would be a big obstacle for the couple, with Moxxie encouraging Millie to not only take time for herself to practice self-care, but also encouraging her to see a mental health professional.
- The depression would put a bit of strain on the couple, but Moxxie isn’t the type to give up on the people he loves when they’re struggling, and Millie thanks him for that every chance she gets.
- Moxxie would be the type to cry when the baby cries.
- Millie would want to breastfeed primarily
- In the event she wasn’t producing enough milk, Moxxie would comfort her and encourage her to keep trying while they also supplemented the baby’s diet with formula and he would kill anyone who had anything negative to say about her not being able to breastfeed/having to breast and formula feed.
- While not always being the most confrontational, Moxxie would also be the type to absolutely lose it on someone who tried to shame Millie for breastfeeding in public. Making his wife self conscious or uncomfortable and trying to deny his kid access to a meal wouldn’t fly with him.
- They have a scrapbook of all the baby’s firsts; a lock of hair from their first haircut, a picture of them holding/learning to use their first weapon, and even a picture of their first kill if they wanted to go into the same line of work M&M do themselves, you know, normal parenty things
- There would be more frequent trips to Wrath, but Moxxie would be a lot firmer with Millie’s parents when it came to anything involving his and Millie’s child, no hesitation, no wanting to please or impress her family.
- Stolas would be the couple’s go to babysitter since he’s really the only one who has had a baby.
- Just like the pregnancy and parenting study binder he made, Moxxie would make another binder after birth documenting every doctor’s appointment for the baby. Millie would tease him, but she loves her husband’s overprotective binder building because it would come in handy at check ups and the first time their little one had to go to the hospital for anything.
- Despite how she grew up, Millie would actually be the one to worry about their kid falling or bumping their head while playing or learning to walk, with Moxxie being there to reassure her that she wasn’t a horrible mother every time her baby got a scrape.
- Matching family pjs for holidays.
- Baking with dad days and sparring with mom.
- Blitz would argue that he has Loona and the couple would eventually let him babysit, but Stolas would be there and would act as the sitter for the baby and his boyfriend. Moxxie and Millie would come home to find their kiddo and Blitz asleep in a pillow fort with Spirit playing.
- Loona is also one of their go to’s for babysitting. Despite not always having gotten along with Moxxie, the baby imp would get pretty attached to Loona and she wouldn’t be able to resist liking the little one’s company too.
- Because of how he was raised, Moxxie would be pretty against anything that involved bringing the kiddo to IMP, but as they got a bit older, he and Millie would talk to Blitz about letting them do office work
- Not fighting in front of their child would be another big thing Moxxie would want to implement in their parenting. While they would both wanna make sure their child grew up in a healthy, happy home, Moxxie would go hard trying to make sure he never became anything reminiscent of the type of father/family dynamic he grew up with.
- Millie would try to go all out for father’s day by doing special father’s day crafts with the little one the week leading up to the day and having them help make a special meal in Moxxie’s honor because she would want him to know that he’s a good dad and that they both love him.
- It would be really important to Moxxie for his little one to be well educated so he would want his child in the best schools from the second they started, probably even getting them on a preschool waitlist the second he got over the shock of finding out about the pregnancy… Millie wouldn’t really bash this, but she and Moxxie would have quite a few deep discussions about the balance of school and what Millie would say were more practical life lessons that were more likely picked up working and doing things outside of a classroom setting.
- They would be the embarrassing parents who cheer too loud and paint their faces/deck themselves out head to toe in whatever attire and color was appropriate for any extracurriculars or activities their kid participated in.
- Their kid would be so loved by them, and they would become the parents that kinda adopt every friend their kids bring over, becoming the safe space for not only their own kid(s) but their friends as well.

Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
omg this is so helpful

Any other chronically ill husk head cannons or thoughts as a husk/hazbin fan and a chronically ill person thank ya

Ask and you shall receive, my dear❤️
I actually really enjoy doing these chronic illness headcanons for Hazbin characters, I might expand into Helluva Boss characters too😋
Chronically Ill Husk [Part 2]
- On his bad days, Husk uses a cane. He hates it and complains that it makes him feel old, so he only really uses it on the days he can hardly move on his own. After hearing him complain about the cane making him feel old, Lucifer actually made him a custom cane. Husk was honestly shocked, not only by the fact that the king of hell himself made something for him of all people, but the fact that it was clear how much thought Lucifer put into it. From the functionality of it to the card themed design, it was one of the best things he’d ever received as a gift.
- He trained Keekee and Fat Nuggets to open doors and fetch things for him. Angel was extremely confused when Fat Nuggets started bringing him bottles of booze when he seemed stressed, and Charlie and Vaggie now have to deal with Keekee flickering the lights when she wants their attention.
- So much joint cracking and popping. Although he sometimes does it to try to relieve some of the pain and stiffness in his joints, sometimes things pop and click involuntarily when he moves, even if it isn’t painful. Vaggie has suggested he maybe try going to a chiropractor multiple times, but Husk is honestly a little scared to let anyone else manipulate his joints. It can be painful enough when he tries to pop something himself and he knows his limits, so he’s lowkey convinced someone else would break something if he let them do it.
- Although he doesn’t buy things for himself often, he did invest in some small things to make his life slightly easier for himself. One of his favorites being something similar to a tab buddy that works for cans and bottles.
- Knowing about her friend’s poor mobility, Niffty actually often offers to clean his room for him. Husk feels bad about it, and tends to try to pay her but she never accepts.
- Because his arthritis severely limits his mobility, Husk arranged his room in a way meant to be completely accessible for him. Niffty hates it because she often can’t reach most things she needs to clean, but she brings a stool and does her best to make sure she puts everything back exactly where it was.
- In the spirit of keeping his room as accessible as he can for himself, Husk has a little rolly cart that he keeps things on for days his pain is worse than others. Pain killers, an emergency bottle of booze, various joint braces, heating pads and ice packs, and some easy to open snacks. He rolls the cart around wherever he needs it and it helps a lot to have everything in one easy to reach spot.
- The cart was an idea Charlie got from hell’s version of pinterest. She even helped him put it together, and whenever she’s in his room for any reason, she often checks to make sure he isn’t running low on things for it….. She may also occasionally try to swap out the booze for water but Husk continues to add it back when he notices. He’s compromised by letting her add the water bottles to the cart, but he refuses to axe the booze.
- When they got together, Angel actually started cleaning his room more and trying to make it accessible for his boyfriend…. Did this happen because Husk took a couple of falls and had severe flare ups after staying the night and having to bend or reach more than he was used to, yes. Did Husk still almost cry when he realized that his boyfriend actually made that type of effort, also yes.
- Angel actually took a massage course so he could give Husk massages to help with pain. Husk has found that having an extra set of hands during a massage is wonderful.
- He’s used to handling things on his own and he’s still getting used to the idea of being part of the hotel’s little family, so he does grumble and complain, telling everyone that he doesn’t need coddling when they bring him ideas or gadgets meant to aid him or worrying about him when his pain gets worse….. But he actually really appreciates the help and he tries to give back whenever he can.
- Sir Pentious often tries to make gadgets to help Husk somehow. Most end up being unhelpful, and in a few cases downright harmful, but he actually made an amazing portable massage device when he found out how hard it could be for the hell cat to save to go to a massage parlor. Husk loves it and he uses it almost daily.
- No one really likes being sick, but Husk absolutely hates it and can sometimes come across as a germaphobe with how he avoids things that may get him sick. He’s achy enough already, he doesn’t need a stuffy nose or headaches on top of it and he does not need more aches and pains that tend to come with colds.
- Much like avoiding flying because it causes pain flare ups, Husk avoids driving at all costs too.
- Despite being in pain 90% of the time, Husk often helps bring in groceries for the hotel, or just generally helping the women with carrying things. He feels its a sort of gentlemanly thing to do, but he always grumbles about it and says “I’m too old for this shit” before doing it. No one ever really asks him to do it, but Charlie thinks its cute in the same way she would find a little old man shaking when pouring juice cute. Vaggie has advised Charlie to never let Husk hear her comparing him to a little old man.

What do you think hell does with its neurodivergent folks since society kind of look down on them?

A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about neurodivergent demons in hell
Neurodivergent-
adjective
Differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal; not neurotypical.
So what does hell do with the neurodivergent people who are condemned to hell? Honestly, I kinda wanna say nothing. While society does tend to look down on neurodivergent people, I think hell is actually a lot different if we’re going solely based on a Vivzie-verse idea of afterlife. We see a lot of different characters in both Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, characters who are easily classified as mentally ill or have some type of vibe about them that would push them out of the realm of being considered neurotypical by definition of the word. If we look at the merry band of idiots and outcasts we follow in the Vivzie-verse, I don’t think that neurodivergence is looked down on the way that it often can be in the land of the living, which I actually love. Being anything other than neurotypical is something that can be seen as a burden by society, especially if whatever makes a person different takes a toll on how they live, making things more difficult for those around them. Oftentimes, we can feel like an inconvenience to those we love and even to strangers…. But in these shows, we don’t see characters being looked down on the way we do in society in most instances, and I kinda believe that that had a lot to do with Lucifer and Lilith and how they set Hell up when they were left there to rot. I think that they spent a lot of time and energy creating a place where it was more about character than how much of a “problem child” someone was. Don’t get me wrong, I know that we’re talking about shows that are literally set in hell with the cast being 99.99% demons, so of course these people aren’t going to be saints but Hell seems to be a lot less of a judgemental place than the living realm or Heaven. Heaven…. I honestly think that Heaven would be more likely to have neurodivergent winners, angels, and other holy creatures feeling more on the outside of things. Would they have their neurodiverse pals in a zoo to be gawked at for entertainment? I don’t think so, but I definitely think that with the way Heaven has been portrayed thus far into both Vivziepop shows, Heaven is more likely to be closer to showing those who are not neurotypical a similar treatment as they may have experienced in their living lives.

Would you be mad if you weren't allowed to marry someone you loved and be stuck with someone you didn't like if we looked into Stella's perspective? I'm not trying to defend Stella.

Oooh! This is a good question! Also, I am so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to your ask, I have a lot of submissions I’ve been putting off for various personal reason that I’m now slowly trying to get through now, so bear with me if you or others have been waiting a while.
A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about Stella and Stolas and their “love”?
Ok, so I wanna start by saying that I cannot stand Stella. Like I hate this woman with a passion and I’m pretty sure I’ve even used the tag “stella slander welcome” or something along those lines at one point on a post I’ve made here……. But, this ask actually poses a good point and it brings me to something that I’ve actually been thinking about for a minute now, so let’s get into it!
So, first of all, to answer the asker’s question, I would be pissed if I was forced into a marriage with someone I wasn’t in love with. Like the asker, I’m not saying that this to justify her actions, because there’s no excuse for who Stella is at her core, but I do kinda see why she has so much anger and resentment toward Stolas. As a person who has been in relationships where I felt unwanted and undesirable, I can definitely say that it sucks and it does cause a lot of angry feelings inside you…. But while I think Stella is horrible, part of me wonders if she maybe wasn’t always as horrible to Stolas as we’ve seen in the Helluva Boss series. I know, I know, that may sound insane, but hear me out; by the time we as an audience are brought into the picture, things have already been set in motion, meaning we’ve essentially been plopped into things midstory for a lot of these characters. We don’t see Millie and Moxxie meet and fall in love in season one, we don’t see Stolas and Stella get married and have Octavia, we don’t get to see Blitz adopt Loona. All of that has already happened by the time we meet these characters in season one, and all we get are flashbacks and little context clues further down the line as to how we got to the point we’re at now, so by the time we meet the Goetic demons, their marriage has long since been over despite them still being married.
Based on what we’re shown in the flashback episode where we see Stolas being told that he’s now engaged at the age like 10 or 12 or something, we see that Stella already doesn’t seem to be the sweetest child based on the singular picture we see of her, but we then get nothing from then to the time they’ve already had Octavia and Via is well into her teenage years. We don’t know how Stolas and Stella’s marriage started out, so we don’t know how hard either Stolas or Stella tried to get along or fall in love or even just tolerate one another. We don’t see if Stella grew bitter over the years because her husband wasn’t reciprocating the affection, and we don’t see how Stolas acted with his wife prior to the start of the show so we don’t know if he ever tried to care for her just for the sake of caring for her rather than just sort of going with it for the sake of their daughter. There’s part of me that wonders if maybe Stella did try to make the best of it before turning into the cold and cruel woman we see in the show, and there’s part of me that wonders if maybe Stolas was struggling too much internally to really recognize the ways she tried to be loving towards him. I honestly think if Stella weren’t an abusive woman that she and Stolas might have had a good friendship within their arrangement, but since we aren’t sure when the abuse started, we can’t 100% say since we never truly got a glimpse of her persona around him or anyone else prior to the events we see in season one.
Am I saying that unrequited feelings turned Stella into the monster she is now? No. I’ve both experienced and watched others experience all types of unreciprocated feelings over the years, and not many of them became anywhere near what Stella is, even in the darkest parts of dealing with those feelings, so I definitely think that the rot runs deeper than just what’s come up here. I am saying that I think the pressures of being demon royalty and the loneliness she may have experienced because of it coming with things like an arranged marriage at such a young age, may play a part in why she takes so much pleasure in making others suffer. I mean, it would kinda make sense seeing as misery does love company… And if you think about it, it would suck to be bound to someone the way she is and feel trapped that way and then one day have that other person wake up and decide that they don’t want to be married anymore. If Stella did feel like she wasn’t allowed to leave Stolas, it could’ve added to the resentment that may have already been building, and him being the one to escape the terms of their marriage (for lack of a better word) may have just poured salt in that wound. An excuse? No…. A reason? Maybe.
Much like the asker, I’m not saying any of this to defend Stella’s behavior by any means, I mean she has openly admitted to enjoying abusing her husband and we see her getting enjoyment out of alienating Stolas from their daughter despite that actively hurting her daughter too. She’s a bad person…. But I would like to see more of her and Stolas’ story from prior to the events of season one to see if she’s always been a genuinely cruel, cold-hearted woman, or if maybe she soured over time to become what she is now.
okay, I NEED to know what’s going on with the mark that everyone in the circus scene wore. Like why can’t it come off? Dose that make them property of some one? If so, who put is it? Can it ever come off? I really can’t wait to see what they say in the show, cause I know they probably didn’t put it there just for design choices. Aghhh I’m so intrigued into this showwww!! And I have NO REGRETS!!
Best guess it's just the circus branding.
Some of them have it on hats.
But most have it as a tattoo. Like Blitz's whole family do, as it their family business.
The only imp owned and run circus. A point of pride.
Imps scar white, and it sometimes covers it and sometimes doesn't.
But think this is because Barbie put effort into her's.
Her's looks like scarification, a type of tattooing with ink that use scar tissue to make the designs. And cover ups are a normal way of hiding or modifying a previous tattoo.
3 months later, I'm only just now noticing all the details with this Sinsmas background.
The stockings, which were mostly hidden by the characters in the scene. Stolas gets either a plant or plant-plush, Via a star scarf, Blitz a horse toy and Loona a bone.

Loona is clearly in the top right picture, but the other solo ones? The silhouettes don't look like Stolas and Via as adults, but rather when they were children?
Then there's the family portrait on the firstplace:
Stolas and Loona in the back, Via and Blitz infront.
And finally, a larger picture, to the right of the fireplace, that while partly cutoff, appears to just be Blitz and Stolas:
Notably, there are no pictures of Blitz by himself in his own fantasy, but considering how he treats his own photos in private, it's not too surprising.
But, if the details are anything to go by, Blitz already knows of Via's preferences for star-themed items, and may have been shown pictures of her as a child.
I didn’t even notice that! I love the details they put in scenes like this!
A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about the parental units of Big Mouth
The Gloubermans:
Ok, so the Gloubermans are an extremely fucked up family, and I think that has a lot to do with the verbal and emotional abuse of Marty Glouberman. While we never see Marty put his hands on his son or his wife, we see in almost every episode he’s featured in that the man is controlling and almost never has a positive or nice word to say to his wife, son, or really anyone for that matter. We see in the planned parenthood episode that Marty was once a compassionate man, and Barbra does mention in a later episode that he had once been kind and gentle, which leads me to believe that Marty’s personality change didn’t happen until a few years into their relationship, possibly not until their son was born. I think Marty and Barbra never talked about starting a family that was more than just the two of them, and I think that Marty just kinda went with it when Barbra got pregnant with Andrew because she was happy, but I think there’s a lot of resentment about the way their lives changed after the birth of their son, causing the personality shift that birthed the Marty seen in the show. I think Marty’s personality shift is what caused the shift we see in Barbra too, as we see her being a fun-loving woman in the planned parenthood flashback, but see her portrayed as a woman who is not only afraid of everything. Between Barbra’s fear of everything and Marty’s abuse, I think Andrew’s inability to connect with people in a normal way makes a lot of sense.
The Glasers:
Greg and Shannon Glaser are honestly one of the healthiest parental units in Big Mouth. This may seem odd since this couple is broken up, but I think that as parents, they are a pretty healthy example of good parents. Greg truly loves his daughter and he does what’s in her best interest when it truly matters, and so does his ex wife. Have they both made mistakes where Jessi is concerned? Yes…. Have they also both been there for her when she really needed them? Also yes. From making sure she gets into therapy, and making sure that she has a safe home with both of them in their perspective houses, to just trying to be good co-parents, these two are genuinely trying their best with their daughter and I think that’s actually pretty awesome.
The Birches:
Ok, so here’s the thing…. The thing is that I cannot stand Elliot Birch. The dynamic between Elliot and Diane started out being a really healthy one in the first couple of seasons, with the couple being loving towards each other and their children, but slowly became more and more toxic as the show progressed with Elliot becoming obsessed with his wife to the point that it became his whole personality. Elliot is an example of how lenient parenting can cause spoiled children (*cough cough* Nick), and I think this can cause resentment for the other parent when they act as an actual authority figure and hand out actual consequences for actions that require consequences. Diane on the other hand I think became more of a hardass with her kids, Nick specifically since he’s the youngest and the most likely to push boundaries in ways he may not fully understand the consequences of yet. I think that these two are very much a yin/yang dynamic, but I don’t think they could do it as a single parent or as co-parents since we do see the communication break down a bit in season 6 of the show. While I don’t think that this slight communication issue spells doom for the Birches as a couple, I do think that it shows that Elliot may not be able to communicate when it comes to the children if he and his wife were to split and have to parent separately, which I think says a lot about the way that Elliot and Diane parent. I also think that Elliot’s parenting style likely changed somewhere between the couple having Judd and Nick since Judd has an extremely different personality and overall vibe from his younger brother… While this could just be attributed to him being older and being the oldest of his siblings, Judd gives off the vibe of having been raised by different hands than those who raised Nick and I think that it’s likely that Elliot was still holding on to that “hard daddy” persona he got from his own father. I think with Leah, Elliot had a more moderate approach, but completely lost all sense of what was too hard vs what was too soft when it came to parenting and went full on “soft daddy”, leaving his wife to be the sole authoritative parent by the time Nick came around.
The Bilzerians:
Jayzerian Ricflarian Bilzerian, one of the most neglected children in the show. The Bilzerian family is deeply flawed and I believe all of that stems from the abuse by Guy Bilzerian. While most of what we know about Jay’s family is through bits of what Jay has told his friends about his home life and the few glimpses of his parents throughout the seasons, it’s very clear that Jay and his brothers are extremely neglected. The state of the Blizerian house is less than ideal, and it’s clear through the way Jay’s two older brothers treat him that there’s no real consequences for any type of behavior, leaving them all to fend for themselves while their dad sleeps around (and fathers what looks like hundreds of kids) and handles all of his dirty dealings, and his mom drinks until her body is likely filled with more alcohol than blood. Although Lola Skumpy is extremely neglected, I would argue that Jay is more neglected because Lola’s parents aren’t even in the house, her mother is usually touring with a band so she’s likely not even in the same state as her daughter most of the time, but Jay’s parents are around… Jay’s mom is literally in the house with him most of the time, but she’s too drunk to really parent any of her kids. The fact that both of Jay’s parents are around but not truly present with him is more than likely a large reason why he is the way he is. With his only constant role models being the man who fathered tons of other kids and takes care of none of them and the woman who didn’t even notice her youngest child ran away, it’s pretty clear that a lot of his creepy and weird habits come from watching the people who “raised” him.
The McDells:
Overall, Matthew’s parents are actually pretty healthy, both as a couple and as parents. I also love the fact that they kinda flipped it to show a softer side of his father since a lot of portrayals in media show it being men and fathers that aren’t as supportive of their kids coming out as LGBT, especially with sons. I do think that Kimberly and Edward love their kids, and despite the issues Kimberly has with Mattew’s coming out and her being uncomfortable when he brings a partner over for the first time, she and her husband really do try to not only accept that their son is gay, but they go out of their way to try to make sure he knows that he’s loved regardless and even talk to his younger siblings about it and remind them that they would still be loved if they were LGBT too. I personally think they’re one of the best couples and parents in the show and I would love to see more of them in the final season.
The Foreman-Greenwalds:
What can I say about the parents of Missy Foreman-Greenwald? Honestly, I think these two might genuinely be the best parents on the show. The couple is raising a strong-willed, intelligent daughter in a household that seems to constantly be supporting the development and growth of her mind. Is the whole new age hippie stuff annoying? Hell yeah, but Monica is genuinely a supportive mother and Cyrus is genuinely a man that Missy can look up to who embodies traits that she can compare to her future partners to steer her in the right direction when it comes to love. I also love the realism in this couple since we see the struggles of them having a biracial daughter in the season 4 episode “The Hugest Period Ever” when we learn that Monica doesn’t really know how to manage black hair. We also see how hard the couple tries to be there for their daughter when she develops a hate worm and becomes a beast that they are actually a little scared of. While they aren’t usually fan favorites in the show, I think it’s safe to argue that Cyrus and Monica are pretty good parents.
The Skumpys:
What can you really say about someone who is never there? We’ve gotten some mixed messages over the seasons about Lola’s parents, but one thing we know for sure is that she primarily lives alone in the condo she calls home. Cookie Skumpy is described as a party girl who is rarely home and when she is, has men in and out of her life frequent. The only lore we have about Lola’s dad? The primary thing we’ve learned is that she’s never met the man…. These two are definitely tied with the Bilzerians for worst parents in the show.
