We want characters to either be loved or hated. One of the best examples of that is Solas. Half the community wants to kill him, half the people want to marry him, and another part want to do both.
What do u think about that solas quote "They called me the dread wolf, what will they call you once this all over?" It striked me a bit odd but I saw someone say on Twitter that it might suggest he's not the main baddie in da4, that the protag and solas are more alike than we think. It's interesting cause the devs say our protag is someone without power who's trying to make changes that ppl in power aren't addressing. Solas understands that better than most
The very first line Solas says to you alone is, “Every great war has its heroes. I’m just curious what kind you’ll be.” It’s key to the thematic material of the series about people making difficult choices for understandable reasons. So now he’s saying it to another hero. Solas himself is like a hero from a previous Dragon Age game walking the earth, and you can’t control what he does or what difficult choices he makes. “Not unlike Inquisitor, I suppose,” as he says in Trespasser.
What I hope this means is that the new hero will have to make AS difficult a choice as Solas had to, and I hope that new hero will be reviled for it as well.
I have actually been preaching this whole time that Solas is… at worst a Thranduil figure in a series where Saurons and Melkors VERY MUCH exist. Like, he’s an antagonist, and so he’s there to portray another facet of the same material as the protagonist, but people misunderstand him and simplify his character’s probable narrative function and complexity because they had an emotional reaction to him. Every single piece of new material makes me double down on this. I think that the concept art of him, plus his appearance in Tevinter Nights, is all very 👀👀
So, I watched the Bioware video on the next Dragon Age, got ridiculously excited, and spent way too much time grabbing screenshots of the various locations.
Beware spoilers.
Here are some of my thoughts (it’s a long post, so be warned)
This could be Orlais, it could be Antiva. Not sure if it’s Tevinter, the architecture doesn’t seem to fit. I’m leaning a bit more towards Orlais.
Deep Roads. No question about it. Maybe there’s an Old God behind that door, or maybe another Titan?
This is giving me some Antiva vibes, especially with the coastline of boats and the mountains in the background. Antiva City, maybe?
Anderfels? Could be the Weisshaupt Fortress. Or is it another one of Solas’ strongholds?
Again, I’m thinking Anderfels here. It could be the Western Approach too, but the river makes me think it could be the Anderfels, close to the Hunterhorn Mountains perhaps?
Definitely Elven Ruins, like the Vir Dirthara and the others we’ve seen in Trespasser.
Tevinter, Minrathrous, maybe, or Qarinus?
Entrance to the Deep Roads, but not Orzammar. Kal-Sharok, perhaps?
Dwarven construction, so a dwarven city. It could be Orzammar, but doesn’t look like it. Does the sunlight (if that’s even sunlight!) mean it’s on the surface (like the ruins in the Hissing Wastes)?
Giant dwarven statue. We saw ones like these on the Storm Coast, and on Dragon Island. The snow could mean some location in the South. Or maybe the Hunterhorn Mountains, near Kal-Sharok?
Getting some Nevarra vibes from this. The Grand Necropolis, maybe?
Is this a location, or a monster for a boss battle? I’m leaning towards the latter, but who knows.
Could be from anywhere. Is that a statue of Andraste? The red lyrium near it is concerning. Is that supposed to hint something about the Chantry?
Feels like dwarven architecture, but is that sunlight? Is this on the surface, or in/near a titan? Definitely not Orzammar, though.
The green light from the arches/windows could mean only one thing: The Fade. Has the Veil been sundered? Is that what that indicates? The table in the room looks like a war table, but there’s no one else present except (what I assume) is the PC. Does this mean Solas succeeds, and the rest of the game is about finding allies to fight the rest of the Evanuris? BIOWARE PLS.
More screengrabs from the Bioware video, and I’m really, really excited about the companions.
From the video, we know two of the companion names: Bellara (who I suspect might be a dwarf, given her line of “No, no no! It’s okay. That’s the good kind of rumble.”
There’s also a Warden companion called Davrin. “No one dies on my watch. For the Wardens!”
Looks like there are going to be eight companions, including a Qunari female (hell yes!) and the one on the far right looks like a spirit? Or a possessed corpse/skeleton like Justice? Either way it’s going to be very exciting and is one of them carrying a gun, oh my god.
A closer look at some of them. From what I can tell:
qunari female, second from left in first picture = qunari female on the far right in the second. hooded character, sixth from left in first picture = guy with daggers on the far left in the second. character with sword on back, third from left in first picture = guy with sword, second from left in the second. woman in cape, fourth from left in first picture = woman with sword, third from left in the second.
More companions? The guy with his fist up could just be the PC.
On the left of the picture we can see the qunari female, and what looks to be an Antivan Crow?
Not sure if the dagger lady is a companion or not, but she kind of reminds me of Isabela? Also, if there’s going to be a part of the game set under water I AM HERE FOR IT.
I suspect this could be Davrin, the Warden companion.
The Crow companion (at least, I think that’s what she is - can’t think of another reason for the birds around her). I adore her costume, and I am so weak for a woman with a sword!
No idea who this guy is but please Bioware let him be a companion and let him be romanceable :D
