Ahhh, I see it is time

So, worded my second review request around the assumption this meant sexual... but it seems with the update they've added a blanket "Mature" option which, in their own words:

"Mature

The Mature content label is a catch-all and the default content label. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with one of the other categories. Any post with a content label will also have the Mature label (for example, it isn’t possible to add the Violence label and not the Mature label).

If you feel like none of the other categories apply but you think there should still be some kind of NSFW warning on the post, Mature is probably the right one to select."

Starting to seem like they've created a vague umbrella flagging option so they can cover their asses when flagging stuff like trans and/or Black people existing, transfeminisim, antizionisim, or anything they've been following the mass reporting, credit cards, advertisers, and the CEOs ego to remove/censor/suppress. Can't give them shit for flagging your clothed selfie within TOS as "mature" the same way as you can for flagging it "sexual content" because then they aren't branding it as breaking their TOS on sexual content, just as something that's nebulously for "mature audiences" and "not safe for work".

Of course, can and still should absolutely give them shit for this kind of stuff, it's just them doing the same bigoted moderation practices they've been doing since before their last lawsuit about it, but now with a thin veneer of plausible deniability.

If you have ever been tempted by a Paleozoic Pal, like a a stuffed trilobite or a full size eurypterid body pillow, now's the time to buy one, before they and a really lovely little museum are gone for good 😭😭😭

This was the museum I went to often in my childhood. I'm no longer able to visit unless I visit family, but this place holds a special place in my heart.

As stated in the article, they hold around 7 million artifacts- many of which are orphaned fossils, with the museum taking in collections that otherwise would have been trashed.

Please consider buying a Paleozoic Pal, but I'll also leave a direct donation link as well.

I JUST WENT INTO A FUGUE STATE AND BOUGHT ME A 16 INCH CUDDLE BUDDY WITH PLATED TEETH!! DUNKIE, MY BELOVED!!

Screeching aside, anyone who can afford to, go look through their shop! They got clothes, and cute gifts, and books and all kinds of other awesome stuff! Ye, the shipping sucks, but we need to keep our museums alive! (the good ones, not the British Museum of Thievery XP)

HE’S HERE! MY BIG BOY IS HERE!! (And yes he is my BIG boy despite only being 16 inches, you shush!)

He took nearly a month to get here, but that’s because of ALL THE ORDERS THEY’VE BEEN GETTING! OVER 1800 ORDERS! This is why I love the online community!!

Now if you don’t mind I’m going to tuck Duncan into my sweater and go work on the piles of stuff I still have to do 😅

For anyone curious what's happening with the PRI they're digging themselves out! An anonymous donor gave them $1 mn which they used to secure a stay on the forclosure for the rest of the year and they're approximately a third of the way to buying their way out of the mortgage.

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN

bestest-goblin

I feel like a dumbass, but @rapidashmascot just revolutionised my understanding of that parable.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR DONATIONS ON CHANGE.ORG DO NOT GO TO THE SUBJECT OF THE CAMPAIGN

That means that when you donate, it goes to change.org. Now, this isn't useless — it does mean that the petition gets boosted. However, you're pretty much doing the same thing by reblogging. I am concerned about people donating something like $40 dollars since I'm not sure if they realize it doesn't contribute to the legal fund or not.

If you want to donate to the internet archive's legal fund (and help with operation costs), then you can click here to go their donation page

We should all be radicalized by Otter 841.

Living in Santa Cruz, CA, we see sea otters so often it's easy to forget that they are endangered. Otters are a keystone species, meaning they are critical to the health of the Monterey Bay. They protect it from being overrun by species like urchins and invasive crabs that endanger the kelp forest. Without otters, the kelp would disappear along with hundreds of other species. The seabed would erode, making our coast more vulnerable to storms. Otters maintain the balance of our Bay, and they are just one example of an endangered species whose conservation is critical to the species and people of an area.

Trump has proposed changing the interpretation of the Endangered Species Act so that it no longer protects habitat, creating a loophole that companies can use to disregard environmental protections, a move that would be catastrophic for endangered species across the country.

But we can fight.

This site is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.

Also, call AND email your representatives in congress, and let them know you will not allow the Trump administration to roll back decades of environmental progress.

Don't let Otter 841 down.
