Reflecting back it was mostly because I thought if I was actually in control of my life then that also meant I was responsible for all the terrible decisions and trauma. After I admitted that to myself I learned blame has no place in healing, acceptance does. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or stressed I remind myself I am in control. I may not be able to change what is happening but I can control my response.
