JESSICA WOODS| Oceanside Salon on Instagram: "“Lived-in hair color” refers to a hair coloring technique designed to look natural, effortless, and low-maintenance. This style typically involves subtle, blended highlights and color variations that mimic the natural way hair lightens and darkens over time. The goal is to create a look that grows out beautifully without requiring frequent touch-ups, giving the hair a more organic, sun-kissed appearance. This method often uses balayage, ombre, or soft babylights to achieve the effect, providing depth and dimension while maintaining a relaxed and slightly undone vibe.

Lived in hair color is a totally different world than what we used to call partial or full highlighting.

The word balayage is a French word that means to sweep. It was the first “technique” that I was taught. The first salon that I worked at was a French salon in Beverly Hills in the 90’s. We had over 20 hair color specialists in which ONLY one used foils. My how times have changed! This is still my favorite technique to do, but it’s not for everyone. I used to trip out when people started calling what I call teasy lights, foilayage, slices, and even air touch balayage 😂, but then I realized something. At the end of the day technique names are for the hairstylist not the client. Some clients can only make it in once or twice a year, so it’s crucial to give them a color that looks fabulous the entire time between visits. Here’s my go-to technique to ensure their color remains seamless and natural:

🌟 Start with a thick section of hair.
🌟 Split it into two.
🌟 Highlight the underneath section at the ends.
🌟 Highlight the top section closer to the root.

When these sections blend together, it creates highlights that look perfectly grown out, avoiding that dreaded stripey or too-fresh look. This method also ensures the highlights are thin enough to grow out with no harsh lines. 💫 #hairstylist #haireducation #highlights #foilayage | Blake Reed Evans Pro Highlights Growing Out, Highlight Underneath Hair, Highlights That Grow Out Well, Grown Out Highlights To Balayage, T Zone Highlights Hair, T Bar Highlights, Growing Out Highlights, Types Of Highlights For Hair, Highlight Sectioning
