After seeing the thread on amsteel soft shackles I found a "how to" video on youtube about make 550 cord soft shackles. I made a pair out of 550 cord soft shackles and tested them on the hammock. I put one on each side of the hammock and sat in it, bounced, and swung and they held fine. Someone had said they should hold 800 static pounds...well they definitely hold 220 pounds. The soft shackles I made are 24" long to start and then follow video to make them. It ends up being a 4" loop

Soft shackles can be used almost anywhere you currently use a conventional shackle. Look on any boat and you will usually find areas where a metal shackle has worn away an aluminium casting or toe rail. If soft shackles had been used from the outset, one might have had to replace a shackle a few times but this would be a lot cheaper than having to replace a mast fittings, for example. Another advantage is that once the shackle is secured there is little or no chance of it coming undone…

I love the phanton grappler hitch especially the way it doesnt fall off. But i also love the improved soft shackles for strength and no raw ends. So i found an easy way to use the improved soft shackle in the way a grappler hitch is used. So doesnt fall off, but can be removed, and used for other stuff, quick and easy like a grappler, no raw ends like a shackle :) Think i will use it for the end of my tree hugger to attach around the tree.
