Tenses - French
only 17 verbs + reflexive verbs use etre as their conjugated verb. They generally show
motion.
etre conjugation + auxiliary verb + past participle of auxiliary verb
exceptions:
- for verbs that end in cer, they c becomes this ç. Example: lancer - je lançais
- for verbs that end in ger, the e remains. Example: manger – nous mangeais
- falloir pleuvoir –used in 3rd person – conjugated in imparfait like: il fallait, il pleuvait
only irregular in imparfait is etre:

Futur simple – future tense
To form the future tense in French, we add to the infinitive of the verb the endings “ai, as, a,
ons, ez, ont”.
je parlerai
tu parleras
il parlera
nous parlerons
vous parlerez
ils parleront.
