Andretti Global est une écurie de sport automobile américaine qui évolue dans le championnat IndyCar Series. L'équipe a aussi engagé des voitures en American Le Mans Series (2007-2008), A1 Grand Prix (2008–2009), U.S. F2000 (depuis 2010) Star Mazda Championship (depuis 2011) et en Formule E (depuis 2014).
Historique
[modifier | modifier le code]Naissance de l'écurie
[modifier | modifier le code]L'écurie est fondée en 1993 sous le nom de Forsythe-Green Racing par Barry Green et Gerry Forsythe. Elle engage deux voitures au championnat Atlantic avec les pilotes Claude Bourbonnais et Jacques Villeneuve. L'année suivante, Gerry Forsythe quitte l'équipe pour monter sa propre structure, le Forsythe Racing. L'équipe est rebaptisée Team Green et engage une Reynard à moteur Ford pour Jacques Villeneuve dans le championnat CART. En 1995, elle remporte les 500 miles d'Indianapolis et le championnat IndyCar World Series. En 1996 l'écurie devient « Brahma Sports Team » puis « Team KOOL Green » en 1997 alors qu'elle engage deux voitures, avec les pilotes Paul Tracy et Dario Franchitti.
En 2001, Michael Andretti rejoint l'équipe pour un projet baptisé « Team Motorola » dédié à un retour à Indianapolis après cinq ans d'absence (depuis la victoire de 1995). En 2002, l'équipe change de châssis, passant de Reynard à Lola. Après que les problèmes commencent à émerger en CART, Andretti, qui avait pris une participation majoritaire dans l'équipe et l'avait renommée « Andretti Green Racing », passe à l'IndyCar Series, la série concurrente, en 2003.
À partir de 2004, Andretti Green Racing fait courir quatre voitures avec les pilotes Tony Kanaan, Dan Wheldon et Bryan Herta en plus de Dario Franchitti (Paul Tracy ayant quitté l'équipe en 2003 pour rester en Champ Car et Michael Andretti ayant cessé de piloter après les 500 miles de 2003). Kanaan et Wheldon gagneront deux titres consécutifs en IndyCar Series (2004 et 2005), et Dan Wheldon gagnera les 500 miles d'Indianapolis 2005.
En 2006, Marco Andretti, le fils de Michael, rejoint l'équipe en remplacement de Wheldon parti chez Chip Ganassi Racing et Michael Andretti reprendra même le volant pour les 500 miles, épreuve qu'ils termineront aux deuxième et troisième places. Danica Patrick rejoint l'équipe pour la saison 2007 en remplacement de Bryan Herta. En , après avoir gagné les 500 miles et le championnat IndyCar Series, Franchitti quitte lui aussi l'écurie pour se tourner vers la NASCAR, il est remplacé par le pilote japonais Hideki Mutoh. En 2009, et pour la première fois depuis 2003, l'équipe ne remporte aucune victoire.
En , l'écurie devient Andretti Autosport. En 2010, Ryan Hunter-Reay rejoint l'équipe en remplacement de Mutoh et Kanaan la quitte pour la saison 2011.
Pour la saison 2012, Danica Patrick quitte Andretti Autosport pour se consacrer elle aussi à la NASCAR. Dan Wheldon, qui devait revenir au sein de l'équipe pour la remplacer, se tue au Las Vegas Motor Speedway le .
Marco Andretti réalise le meilleur tour en course lors des 500 miles d'Indianapolis 2012[1].

Depuis 2014 : Championnat du monde de Formule E

2014-2017 : Premières saison dans le nouveau championnat de Formule E
[modifier | modifier le code]Andretti Autosport confirme sa participation au nouveau championnat de monoplaces électriques, la Formule E[10]. Le , Andretti signe un pilote avec lequel elle a déjà couru (Grand-Am 2008, Sonoma 2009), le français Franck Montagny[11]. Durant la saison, huit pilotes différents courent avec ses monoplaces : Montagny (manches 1 et 2), Vergne (1 à 11), Pic (1), Brabham (2-3), Andretti (4), Speed (5-8), Wilson (9), de Silvestro (10-11), quatre podiums sont décrochés (un avec Montagny, deux avec Vergne et un avec Speed) et l'équipe termine à la sixième position au classement des écuries.
Le duo de pilotes pour la saison 2015-2016 est composé de Robin Frijns et Simona de Silvestro. Robin Frinjns monte sur la troisième marche du podium lors de la seconde manche à Putrajaya.
2018-2020 : Partenariat avec BMW en Formule E
[modifier | modifier le code]Pour la saison 2018-2019, Andretti s'associe avec le constructeur allemand BMW avec António Félix da Costa et recrute Alexander Sims. Après une domination des deux voitures lors des essais hivernaux. Après avoir signé la pole, Da Costa remporte la première course de la saison devant Jean-Éric Vergne et également la première victoire de l'écurie en Formule E
Pour la saison 2019-2020, l'écurie signe l'Allemand Maximilian Gunther qui terminera 9e du Championnat avec 2 victoires et 3 podiums. Alaxander Sims qui effectué sa deuxième saison dans l'équipe et en Formule E sera dominé en performances par Max Gunther qui sera confirmé par l'équipe pour la saison 2020-2021. Alexander Sims quittera l'équipe et partira chez Mahindra Racing pour 2021.
Saison 2020-2021 : Maximilian Gunther reste dans l'équipe mais connaitra une saison difficile et irrégulière en terminant 15e du Championnat du monde avec 1 seule victoire qui sera son seul podium en Course 1 à New York. Le rookie et nouveau pilote Britannique en Formule E Jake Dennis impressionne pour sa première saison en Formule E en terminant 3e du Championnat du monde avec 2 victoire dominantes à Valence (Course 2) à Londres (Course 2).
Depuis 2022 : Retour sous le nom de Andretti
[modifier | modifier le code]Pour la saison 2021-2022, l'équipe Américaine annonce mettre fin au partenariat BMW-Andretti et se renomme Avalanche Andretti Formula E pour sa 8e saison en Formule E. BMW demeure cependant motoriste de l'équipe. Jake Dennis reste dans l'équipe après avoir signé une bonne première saison en 2021 et sera leader de l'équipe avec l'arrivée de l'Américain Oliver Askew, titulaire en IndyCar Series en 2020 et 2021.
